Year Three/Four News

Ecolinc Incursion

This term in Integrated Studies, students in Year 3/4 are learning about the topic "Friend or Foe". The focus of this unit is to learn about the life cycles of plants and how bees and other insects help plants grow.

To support our learning in this area this week we had a visit from Ainsley from Ecolinc. Ainsley brought with her a bearded dragon, a blue-tongued lizard, some green tree frogs and some spiny leaf insects.

Did you know that the bearded dragon lays eggs but the blue-tongued lizard has live babies? Or that ants help the spiny leaf insects hatch? The baby leaf insect even looks like a baby ant!. We also learnt that a tadpole's tail does not fall off, the tail is reabsorbed into the froglet's body to be used as an energy source. Amazing! Of course, the most exciting part was being able to touch the creatures!
