Year One/Two News

Money!
For the next two weeks in Maths, we are investigating all things 'money'. From recognising Australian coins to their value and equivalent value of a collection of coins. Students find the 'hands on' aspect (as well as, perhaps dreaming of what they could buy if only the play money was real) of this area of maths to be highly engaging.
Most families pay for items using a card rather than cash. Whilst paying with coins may be becoming a thing of the past there are many counting opportunities for students when handling cash. If your child comes home and asks if they can look in your wallet or purse for coins, don't be alarmed. They are wanting to add values together to find the total. Sit with them and watch how they might sort, make groups of $1 or come up with a novel way to find the total of your coin collection.
