Acting Principal's Report

I acknowledge the First Peoples of our nation and the traditional custodians of the land on which our beautiful school stands, The Wathaurong people. I pay my respects to the Wathaurong people and acknowledge their contribution and care of the land and waters on which our school community works and lives. I pay my respects to their Elders past, present and emerging, and acknowledge and thank all First Nations people within the Miners Rest School Community.

Assembly

It was delightful to see so many families at assembly last Friday. We were entertained with two most enjoyable performances from M3 and S4 and also had the opportunity to acknowledge the artistic talents of Wes and Alby Glasson. We will be showcasing the entries that the boys recently submitted to a nationwide competition and also share the stories behind the pieces. Stay tuned.

Car Parking

Thank you to all of our families demonstrating safe and lawful driving and parking around our school. A further reminder that the space to the west of our site, outside of Kim barne Nitje, is not a carpark. This space is a loading zone for the Kim barne Nitji and the thoroughfare for our waste bin vehicles. We have recently had a near miss with a reversing vehicle and pedestrians. Our surrounding roads and school site are busy places before and after school, please support the safety of our school community and, most importantly our children, by being mindful of safe practices.

Celebrating Learning

Samples of independent writing from all students across the school are currently being displayed throughout classrooms. Please take the time to visit and see your child's most recent writing piece.

Seesaw/Showbie

For those family members who cannot make it into the classroom, stay connected to your child's learning efforts through fortnightly posts on our communication platforms.

How can I support learning at home?

We appreciate support from home in promoting the importance of learning. Regular reading, and talking about the messages and ideas in what we read, is so very important to develop a life long love of reading. As readers, we learn to read and then we read to learn.

Supporting any other expectations of learning at home, e.g. preparation for Show and Tell or other set tasks, not only supports your child's confidence and pride in their contributions in class, it also supports skills in organisation and independence.

New Playground

It's official, and we are counting down to the installation of a brand new playground towards the end of this term! Although we will have areas of our playground cordoned off for groundwork's from the end of August, we will have an extra playground to enjoy from Term Four onwards. Yay!

Learning Readiness

Speaking of play, we are grateful for the support of our families in ensuring that our children arrive between 8:45 am and 9:00 am. Between these times, all children across our school engage in tasks to set themselves up for a successful day of learning. The preparation and organisation allows children to be focussed and ready to begin their focus on Literacy at the very start of the day.

Uniforms

We are proud of the fact that the very vast majority of our students arrive to learn at school in their Miners Rest K-6 school uniform. A school uniform is an important part in feeling a sense of belonging and unity, it also develops a sense of pride within our school community. Thank you for supporting our school expectations in wearing our school uniform each day. Please remember that we do have a Second-hand Uniform Shop, with access to quality items. If you require further information about our school uniform, please access the uniform policy on our school website.

What do we have to look forward to at school?
