CodeCamp

CodeCamp

Kinross Wolaroi Junior School hosted CodeCamp on from the 13-14 July. We were very excited to welcome CodeCamp back, as Kinross Wolaroi programs were well attended pre-COVID. Mrs Fatai worked for CodeCamp as the Camp Manager, with ex-student Greta Ward acting as one of the Head Teachers, instructing students through the Spark Program.

In the Spark program, students used CodeCamp software to design and create their own video game. The first day was all about learning the basics of coding, to animate their heroes, create obstacles and different levels. On the second day, students let their creative juices flow and created their games which were published to their parents by the end of the day. Students who attend CodeCamp have access to the CodeCamp software for 12 months, so can continue designing and creating their own games at home.

In the Minion Animations program, our younger coders created a storyboard for a Minions story. They created their characters using clay and drew their backgrounds. Using iPads they captured their shots and then edited with their Head Teacher, including voice over, text and soundtrack. These students’ movies were shared with their parents by the end of the day.

The next CodeCamp is scheduled for Wednesday 5 and Thursday 6 October. Programs will be announced closer to the date.

Any Year 11 or 12 Software Design students (17 years +) who are interested in holiday work as a Teaching Assistant in future CodeCamp programs, please email Mrs Fatai: mfatai@kws.nsw.edu.au
