Acting Principal's Message

Diverse ~ Accepting ~ Inclusive Community

Dear Parents, Families & Friends,

We are now at full strength with the Year 9 & 10 students and staff returning from their expeditions in the western MacDonnell Ranges and Victorian Alps. We also welcomed two new staff members, Ms Jackie Gallagher in PE & Health and Mr Dominic Nahon as our PE Assistant.

The highlight of the week involved our Leadership and Democracy Pillars embodied in our Round Square culture. Six courageous Year 11 students applied for College Captain and after an arduous application process including a panel interview with staff and students, a speech at assembly and an election, Elaine Ncube and Rasheed Ladouce were pronounced College Captains for 2022 & 2023. They will be ably assisted by Vice Captains, Kailin Love and Jethro Keen. I’m especially proud of the other candidates, Casey Bright and Hamish Materne for their willingness to put themselves forward – I’m sure they will be successful in other positions.

A special mention to Steve Kimber who organised thirty students to participate in the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA). Sponsored by OECD, this is a triennial survey of 15-year-old students that assesses the extent to which they have acquired the key knowledge and skills essential for full participation in society. The assessment focuses on proficiency in reading, mathematics, science and an innovative domain, and on students’ well-being.

We finished off this week with school photos. This is the first time; I’ve realised the depth of organisation required to make this happen and I’m grateful for the countless hours Jen Robinson has put into this event, in order for it to run smoothly.

Parents will be happy to know that the year level group photos have been taken this year and can be ordered online at Advanced Life: https://www.advancedlife.com.au/ and our school code is: HC7 MYL FR4.

Kind regards,

~ Leslie Tilbrook
