Here we are past the halfway mark of Term 3 and what a busy term it has been in the Visual Arts. Senior students are busy working on final artworks, presentations and theory work. The Studio Arts students and Year 10 Art groups have had an incursion where they learnt about the Art Industry Context and an opportunity to listen to the staff that work at the National Gallery of Victoria such as a curator, conservationist, designer and marketing team member where they explained their role in the preparation of the Picasso Century exhibition. The information that our students receive is always valuable as they become familiar with how long it takes to organise a blockbuster exhibition. This also allows student to become the many jobs that are available for them to consider. A week later our students had an opportunity to physically view the Picasso Century exhibition which was the highlight for many to see all the Picasso artwork and many of his friend’s artworks. Our students gained knowledge about the influences and the various changes an artist experiences in their life time which was very intriguing.
Our senior Visual Communication students have been creating many designs for their logos, posters etc. They will also be giving their peers a pitch to their peers and collecting data which designs are most successful prior to creating their final designs where they add it to products.
The senior Media students have started to develop their final artworks where they are producing film etc.
The Year 10 Art students have been creating designs for lino artworks and are exploring carving and printing their designs. The Year 9 Art students are creating paintings from selected images and have learnt how to mix paint using tints and shade.
The Year 7/8s have been learning how to create a portrait where they have learnt how portraits have changed over time and have started to develop their own self-portraits.
Year 9/10 Visual communication students have been working in various design fields where they are learning that there are many areas in this subject. The junior students are develop an understanding regarding what Visual Communication is all about and are developing designs.
Year 9 Media students have been learning about filming and I have noticed that they have been creating their own props. While the Year 10 Media students are going more in depth with the various fields in Media.
In all, our students are very productive and further developing or learning many new skills and knowledge which will prepare them for the future.

At the end of July and the beginning of August the senior arts students from Year 10-12 had a chance to visit the Picasso Century Exhibition Art Industry incursion prior to seeing the exhibition at the NGV. We were introduced to the Art Industry Context and learnt about how long and what was involved in setting up this exhibition. During our incursion, we were able to listen via a webinar from professional people in the field such as the curator, conservationist, designer and the marketing person, many of these people travel all over the world and work with many other people from various galleries prior to setting up this exhibition. The following week we had an opportunity to attend NGV and view the Picasso Century exhibition where we became familiar with Pablo Picasso’s life and his accomplices and inspirations and his art through his lifetime. After a long and satisfying day, we came back with new knowledge and curiosity about Picasso and all his ventures as well as how in the modern days they present artworks to art lovers.
