Welcome

In this edition of MY FUTURE Careers News, there is much activity around Transition into 2023. At the end of last term, we completed an Alternative Program for our Year 10 Pre VCAL students who attended a number of TAFE taster experiences. This will help these students as they prepare for the new VCE Vocational Major in 2023.
The final two days of term saw the Year 10 cohort introduced to the inaugural VCE Taster Program. This program invited students to choose subjects that they would like to try or were interested in, to help them with choosing subjects for VCE. I have included responses from our feedback survey that indicates that the program was a great success.
What was your favourite part of the VCE Subject Taster Experience?
"Being able to pick certain sessions to go to and picking when you go to them as it was personalised to each of the subjects we liked. I also liked how they were a period each for those days as it gave a really good insight into the subjects."
"The information about the subjects that I wanted to study was valuable and it made me really rethink about what subjects that I wanted to do."
"The teachers were enthusiastic about the subject they were sharing about and made it more engaging and less scary to think about VCE."
"I liked learning more about what exactly we will be doing in certain VCE subjects and where these can take us."
"I liked how we were allowed to choose where we wanted to go and what subjects we wanted information for."
"it helped me figure out exactly what I wanted to do throughout the rest of my senior years and made it easier for me to make a decision on what subjects were necessary for me for what I needed for university."
Some of our Year 10 students completed Work Experience over the first week of the school holidays. They worked in areas such as health, law, veterinary, childcare and hospitality. This experience will help students decide pathway options as they head into the Transition to 2023.
Finally, the Futures Expo was held last week in the Centenary Building. It was a great success with many students from Years 9 to 12 attending with parents/guardians to find out about our many subject offerings in VCE. We also had a number of Tertiary Institutions in attendance including Melbourne, Monash, La Trobe, ACU, RMIT and Deakin Universities, as well as Collarts and Utrain, an organisation in the Vocational sector.
The next couple of weeks will be very busy as our senior students undertake their subject selections for 2023.
