Grades F-2

2022 Stories & Pictures Competition!

This year’s Book Week theme is ‘Dreaming With Eyes Open.’ Do you think reading a good book is a bit like dreaming with your eyes open?

For Book Week this year, you are invited to write a story or draw a picture (or both!) about the topic Dreams.

You can be as creative as you like about this topic!  You could write/draw about a dream you’ve had, a favourite story you’ve read, or a dream you have for the future – or anything else that might be about ‘Dreams!’

Recommended Series

If you love thrilling adventure and amazing animals, why don’t you try…

Redwallby Brian Jacques

I love the Redwall series as the books are full of great characters, unlikely heroes and addictive action! My favourite would be Mossflower as I love reading about Martin the Warrior – a mouse who isn’t afraid of the Evil Wildcat Army. The way Brian Jacques writes is really easy to understand and that means I get into each story really quickly!

I would give the Redwall series a 4/5 stars J

Book week dress-up day

This year at Kalinda Primary School, we are having our Book week Dress-up on Thursday the 18th of August. We encourage all students and staff to come dressed up as their favorite book character - animal, person, or creature.

We will also have a parade to show all the different costumes and hopefully, we can guess who they are!

Of course, students will need to wear appropriate closed shoes for the day.

MS Readathon

This year Kalinda is participating in the MS Readathon. The aim is to have kids (and adults!) reading to raise money for support services for families with members who are living with multiple sclerosis.

If you haven’t registered, it is not too late! Follow the instructions on the MS Readathon site and remember to link to Kalinda Primary School. www.msreadathon.org.au

Mrs Boulton and Mrs Draffin would love to know what amazing, epic adventures you find in the world of books. If you have a book you would recommend to others, send us a quick review. Tell us what makes it “so epic” and who would you recommend to read it. Add a picture too to help us imagine the story. We would love to publish some in our next newsletter and have them displayed around the school.
