Principal's report

Mr Shaun McClare

I would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land on which Kalinda Primary school gathers, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. I would like to pay my respects to their elders past, present, and emerging.

Year 3-6 House Athletics Carnival

One of the many things that I love about Kalinda is how great we are at getting our community together in different ways. The House Athletics Carnival was no exception!

The Year 3-6 House Athletics Carnival was a wonderful day. The weather was very windy, but thankfully the rain stayed away. I was immensely proud of all the students and how they competed and supported one another.

My favourite part about athletics is seeing everyone striving to do their personal best. Whether you excel at running and are competing to cross the line first, or you are just doing all that you can to push through and complete the race; I am proud of every one of you.

To the students who cheer everyone across the line, especially those who may be struggling to finish, I am so proud of the kindness and team spirit you display. That is what makes Kalinda great and I know that you will carry that kindness and empathy with you throughout your lives.

A huge thank you to all the parents who volunteered to make the day possible, to all the staff who did a great job in organising and running the event, and to Mr Kight for planning and running a great Athletics Carnival.

This year we even had a staff race at the end of the Carnival (check out the photo at the top of our awesome teachers at the starting line). Along with many other teachers and ES staff members, I joined the race and gave it my best. I'm not a very fast runner (and I sure felt it the next day) but like all of the students, I am happy to get out of my 'comfort zone' and give it my very best.

I know that all of our students made some great memories at the carnival, whether they came first or just 'had a go'. Thank you for all being amazing.

Mr Kight has been calculating all of the points from the event and will announce the winning house at assembly on Friday and handing out individual ribbons next week.

Thank you Mrs Steele

Mrs Hopkins will be returning to school next week after spending some time travelling, and I would like to give a huge thank you to Mrs Steele for doing an outstanding job as Acting Assistant Principal during this time.

Mrs Steele is an excellent teacher and an amazing leader at Kalinda.  It was no surprise to me that Mrs Steele would do an incredible job stepping up into this role.  She is passionate about student and staff well-being and extending student learning.

I'm sure that she learnt a lot during this last month, but I know that I learned more from this time working with her, and leading the school.

Thank you Mrs Steele.

2023 Enrolments

For any families in our community with younger siblings planning to come to begin at Kalinda in 2023, we would ask that you please submit their enrolment form as soon as possible. This allows us to begin planning for 2023.
