NAIDOC Week

NAIDOC Week was officially acknowledged from 3-10 July.  As this was during the term break, we as a College held events once students and staff were back at school.  It was wonderful to hold a flag raising ceremony of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags on Friday 15th July during the lunch break with many staff and students attending.

Additionally, last Friday the College was privileged to have Perry Wandin of the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung attend to conduct a formal Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony in the College Memorial garden.  This was a very special occasion attended by our ATSI identifying students, parents, college captains, Koorie Engagement and Support Officer (KESO), and staff.

Following the Welcome and Country and Smoking Ceremony, our 20 ATSI students, KESO and College Wellbeing Leader and Koorie Support Leader met over lunch to identify strategies that promote Indigenous inclusion in our classrooms.

It's been a wonderful fortnight acknowledging our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
