Girls in Physics Day
Girls in Physics Day
On Friday the 22nd July, ten students from Years 9 & 10 took part in the 'Girls in Physics Day' at the University of Melbourne.
The day consisted of a series of talks plus laboratory activities and a careers panel. The first talk was delivered by Dr. Elizabeth Hinde who showcased her work on the physical architecture of biology. The second talk was from Dr. Suzie Sheehy who discussed her new book 'The Matter of Everything' and also gave us some background into her research work at both Oxford University and the University of Melbourne. After the talks and morning tea, the students took part in a laboratory activity which explored radioactive half-life.
The highlight of the day was when Victoria won a signed copy of Dr Sheehy's book for asking the best questions of the day. (Josie dropping her frozen coke was a close-second).
