Principal's Report

Dear Parents,

Last week, during our Monday morning assembly we had a special guest attend, The Minister for Education and Minister for Women, The Honourable Natalie Hutchins MP.  Minister Hutchins presented Mackellar’s school captain with the School Wide Positive Behaviours Blue Award. Following the assembly, Minister Hutchins met with the School Leaders and Junior School Councillors where they discussed our school and school life during and post Covid19 lockdowns.

If you would like to attend our school assemblies they are held every Monday morning beginning at 9:05am.  I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the parents that have made time to attend our Monday morning assemblies.

Last Thursday, we celebrated all things Italian with a special event that was enjoyed by all students, staff and the parents who attended.  There were many activities that the students participated in such as, Roman Dress Up, Waiter’s Race, Spaghetti Eating Competition, Italian Dancing, Pasta Jewellery making and Bocce. There was a wonderful selection of Italian food for the students to purchase from the canteen.  The Italian gelato was hugely popular. Thank you to all the parents that attended the Italian Morning and accompanied their child/children across all the activities.  A big thank you to Renata Cugliari for organising the Italian Morning and her team of helpers who assisted to make the morning a big success.

Finally, due to the ongoing high number of staff taking leave across the state of Victoria and the subsequent lack of replacement teachers, the Department of Education has requested that schools have a common professional practice day where all teachers have this day at the one time.  Mackellar Primary School’s common professional practice day will be taking place on Wednesday 31st of August.  On this day, students will not be required at school.  TheirCare will be offering care for students on Wednesday 31st of August.  We have selected a Wednesday as previous days have included Tuesday, Thursday and Friday with the upcoming November curriculum day on a Monday. We hope this limits disruption to any one day of the week over the course of the year. Reminders will of course be sent closer to the day, however you might like to mark the date in your diary now.

Regards,

Anthony Michielin
