Year 5 Avila Immersion Day

On Wednesday last week the Year 5 girls were invited to Avila College for a High School Experience Day. Accompanied by Miss C and Mrs Stewart (who may have had more fun than the students), the girls got to participate in a range of high school classes as well as a home room experience, they received a wonderful tour of the school and were all very impressed by the facilities, including the amazing garden area with chickens! They were also lucky enough to have a special performance by the female cast of Shrek! The Musical which was fantastic. Thank you so much to Avila for having us for the day, we all had a blast!

On this Avila taster day, we could all agree that we got the best high school experience! It was amazing how big the school was and how many students there were. The students at Avila College are so well behaved and are representing their school in the best manner. Us girls did science, IT, art and also had a home room experience. In science we did chromatography, we had to test 3 textas which were from different areas of the school. The whole story is about which person stole the chickens. It was either Dr. Cotter, the Principal, the food tech teacher or the sport teacher. Texta A was the principal, texta B was the sport teacher and texta C was the food tech teacher. We tested all the textas and found out Dr. Cotter stole the chickens. This was a really fun experience. This school is lovely and the students are very hardworking.

On this Avila taster day, we got the best high school experience!

When the students were giving us a tour of the school, there were a lot of amazing places to see. We got to see the high school students in class, and we could tell they were working very hard. What was very interesting is that they had no bell.

All the girls from our St. Justin's Year 5 went on a bus trip to Avila. We were all so excited to experience the high school life! When we arrived, we saw other schools also invited to Avila! After the Avila girls finished doing speeches, we had 10th graders touring us around the high school. (we also got tote bags!) We had science, arts and crafts, and I.T. We also experienced the homeroom.

In Arts and craft we made keychains, there were big beads, little beads and square beads. We had to knot then thread and add beads to the string. We all thought that it was very fun and great. Everyone got to learn how to make a keychain.

We did I.T. - we got robots and drones and you could control them and save rubber chickens. We also went into the homerooms and we practiced unlocking the locks on lockers.

This school was amazing! I'm definitely going to that school now!

Division Soccer

So close ...

After a fantastic round of Division Soccer on Wednesday 27th July at Gardiner Reserve, St Justin's Year 5 and 6 team were narrowly beaten in the final during an intense game, losing 1-0 to Sacred Heart Primary School.

The day started brilliantly as St Justin's worked through the tight first qualifying rounds. Our first game in Pool 1 was against Mount Waverley Heights PS, where we successfully passed the test, winning 2-0, with both goals coming from Daniel.

Our next game was against Mulgrave Primary School and after going 2-0 up, we had to put all of our resolve in to finish the game 2-1. Goals from Amelie and Salvatore therefore, helped us to secure qualification to the Semi Finals. Before that though, we had one last group game, which saw us compete for a 1-1 score draw against Sacred Heart PS. After being 1-0 down, Daniel scored a decisive goal to bring the final score to 1-1.

Next, the Semi-Finals. An amazing performance from the team saw us beat Pool 1 winners, Glendale Primary School. A convincing 3-0 win and a hat trick from Daniel ensured that we reached the Division final for the first time in our history!

So, roll on the final of the Division Soccer competition. An incredible performance from the team meant that we were only just beaten 1-0 by Sacred Heart Primary School. The players were left devastated after hitting the post 3 times, but they should hold their heads up high and embrace the performance of a lifetime.

Well done St Justin's Year 5 and 6 Soccer Team, showing commitment, teamwork and positivity throughout the day. You should all be so proud :)

Also, thank you to Mrs Stewart for shuttling our team to Gardiner Reserve and back, and thank you parents for your incredible support during the day.

See you next year, Year 5's, for another bite of the apple!!
