Education in Faith

Confirmation

On Tuesday night, presenters led the students and their families with information about what it means to be Confirmed, the importance of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit in their lives and what the symbols mean.

Yesterday the Year 6 students and teachers were fortunate enough travel to Don Bosco in Lysterfield for Confirmation Reflection Day. Don Bosco is situated in the Hills of Lysterfield, a beautiful location for our retreat.

The students participated in rotational activities all based around the Sacrament of Confirmation. These activities included a Confirmation Quiz, learning about the Gifts of the Holy Spirit, Scripture and the Holy Spirit and a Guided Meditation.

Father Andrew celebrated the Sacrament of Reconciliation with the Confirmation candidates, answered some well thought out questions by the students and helped lead out a Liturgy, with the help of the Liturgy Leaders.

We thank the presenters, families, Father Andrew and teachers for being part of the St. Justin’s community and helping to support the students on their faith journey.

Good luck to our year 6 students who will be attending Commitment Masses this weekend in preparation for their Confirmation in 2 weeks time.

Thanks to our Year 6 student who donated gifts for Vinnies as part of their Confirmation Reflection Day.  Thanks also to our students from Years 3-5 who have volunteered to be in the Confirmation Choir.

Poetry

Year 6 students have been experimenting with using different structures and figurative language to write poetry. They were required to write a poem about their Confirmation name this week. Here are some examples:

Saint Adele Poem (by Milana)

Adele was compassionate and caring,

She devoted her life to God and she was always sharing.

She started a convent when her husband died.

Christianity was always on her side.

In 730 she sadly passed away,

The 24th of December is her feast day.

She was a dedicated and loving nun.

But her life path was following the only one.

MOTHER TERESA (by Sofia)

There once was a Saint,

If I saw her I would faint.

Her name was Mother Teresa,

and she would help the poor.

She always thought of others,

All those poor mothers.

And gave them the care they needed,

All she wanted was to bring happiness to others.

SAINT THERESE (by Emma)

St Therese of Lisieux,

I believe she gets a great review,

On her love and kindness, It's time I remind you

Of the great good deeds that I knew.

She helped people in every hour

She really could make you empowered.

She is defined

With a kind mind

She really deserves a pretty flower.

Speaking of flowers,

She really likes the sunflowers

And the roses, violets and daisies

Which grow in the gardens and have many gazes.

Some of them can be as tall as the towers.

She has many abilities as well as qualities,

Like dignity and fortitude, there are no frivolities.

She can do good things

Now she can spread her angel wings

And doesn't have to deal with inequalities.

SAINT MARY MACKILLOP (by Gemma)

There once was a young lady named Mary,

She was as sweet as a single berry.

She decided to follow her dreams,

Although people think it's hard to, it seems.

She really wanted to teach,

And spread her message to everyone she could reach.

She started a new school,

And made sure there was at least one rule.

She was a lovely person to all,

No one ever looked up to her as cruel.

No one wanted her to pass,

Everyone, even children, had an amazing time with her in her past.

Everyone thought she was a hero,

She will never, ever be a ZERO!
