Student Leadership

On Tuesday our Acting Pastoral Care Leader Mr Andrew Sambell and our phenomenal eight House Leaders led the Year 11 students through an engaging and interactive Leadership training day. Beginning with Ms McKenna's reflections on servant leadership in a Christian tradition, the day was designed to help the students to reflect on the call to leadership but also for those not aspiring to formal leadership it was a day of self reflection as the students ready themselves for the responsibility of being the senior students of the College.

The film Remember the Titans starring Denzel Washington tracks the ups and downs of an intercultural American Football College team that was forced to come together during the period of prejudice and the movement toward civil rights in America in the late 1960's. The stakes were high. At a point in the movie when everyone is being selfish and egotistical; just doing what suited themselves and not thinking or playing for the team, the civil rights movement or their school, the captain approaches the best player complaining about his bad and selfish attitude. At that point the best player steps back and thinks for a minute before making the profound response "Attitude reflects Leadership, Captain."

The tone and culture of our student body is very much set by the leadership exhibited by our Senior students with our Student Executive at the very vanguard of that leadership. Preparing them is part of the work we have as parents and teachers, however the essential ingredient of effective leadership is an attitude of optimism that together we can make a difference.

Traffic

We continue to counsel our students on the importance of obeying the pedestrian signals at the front of the school. Equally it is important that parents do not try to use the bus or turning lane as their own little one minute drop off zone. Please follow the road rules in and around the College.

Social Media

As a Pastoral Team we are aware of a number of Social media sites and platforms such as Tik Tok where our students are illegally using College logos and images of staff and fellow students to bully and generally try to bring down the great reputation of our school. We ask for your support in speaking with your young person about the importance of digital reputation and not getting involved by posting or reposting this trash. If you or your child comes across this type of material could we ask that your child screenshots it and sends it to their House Leader. We are also reiterating the message that students cannot take photos at School with their mobile phones without the express permission of the subjects in the photo and that those photos cannot be of them breaking school rules. A team approach that is educative is the way we like to attack these undesirable behaviors. ~ thank you for that support.
