NAIDOC Week

NAIDOC Assembly

On Friday, we celebrated NAIDOC Week with a special K-12 Assembly. This important community event was attended by local Aboriginal Elders, parents, grandparents, carers, aunties and uncles. Thank you to the Garingja Dancers from St John The Evangelist High School who shared culture with us.

At the conclusion of the assembly, Mrs Rogers and Stage 5 Food Technology students, served an amazing morning tea for our guests.  The students had cooked and lovingly presented a feast of Indigenous-themed food including:

  • Lemon myrtle cake
  • Kale, macadamia, lemon myrtle and parsely pesto scrolls
  • Macadamia and choc chip cookies
  • Kangaroo, pepper berry and beef sausage rolls
  • Quandong jam drops
  • Wild hibiscus flower salt, pepper berry and rosemary wafers
  • Anzac and wattleseed biscuits

Mrs Varga also contributed ginger biscuits, iced with images of 4L students' colouring competition entries which were inspired by Safina Stewart's artwork.

After morning tea, primary students had the opportunity to share some cultural time with Uncle Charlie.

Thank you to all the staff and students for their eager involvement, especially to Mrs Stewart for organising the entire morning.
