COWEY-SELMAN KOKODA AWARD SCHOLARSHIP

Year 11 students

The Yarra Valley RSLs are providing a fully funded scholarship for a Year 11 student to trek the Kokoda Track. The scholarship is named after two local veterans: Jim Cowey and Geoff Selman who served with the 39th Infantry Battalion in Papua New Guinea.

Year 11 students from all the secondary schools/colleges within the Shire of Yarra Ranges are invited to research the campaign and submit an entry by Friday 24 March using any medium desired (e.g., PowerPoint, art, poetry or essay [limited to 600 words]) addressing these questions:

  • What was the importance of the Kokoda Campaign in the Battle for Australia? and
  • Why would you like to trek the Kokoda Trail?

Two entries from each school will be shortlisted, with the successful candidate being announced on Anzac Day at the Monbulk RSL.
