Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers,

DAN PETRO WELLBEING LECTURES

Thank-you to all families who supported our school last Friday in keeping your children at home or in care so that our staff could participate in the Great South West Network well-being day at Deakin University. We were incredibly fortunate to hear from Dan Petro, a behaviour analyst and director of Behavioural Resources Australia Pty Ltd. Throughout his sessions Dan utilises his extensive professional history of developing positive behaviour support and intervention programs including providing the implementation training.

Simply stated, behaviours are actions or conditions that can be observed. The majority of human behaviours are desirable and necessary for individuals or groups to function productively and safely.

These desirable behaviours will typically continue to occur because they are strengthened by the outcome of the behaviour itself. For example, a person looks at you, smiles, then says “Good morning”. You then respond by smiling back and returning the greeting. Because of your response, that person is more likely to greet you in a similar fashion the next time.

However, when behaviours of concern occur they too may continue depending upon the response. Generally, the reaction to a given behaviour of concern will strongly determine if that concerning behaviour can be modified to something more desirable, or if the condition becomes an even bigger challenge for everyone involved.

All educational staff attended and found this to be a very worthwhile day. A key message that we wish to convey to our students is:

Do your Best

Help Others Succeed

Respect Your School

PRINCIPALS FORUM

On Tuesday Principals from across the South West came together for a forum in Hamilton. Year 5 students from Jamo created artwork and thank you words for bags that were given out. As you can see we have some fantastic artists and some even happier Principals.

COLOUR RUN

The fundraising committee are well underway with their organisation of this years Colour Run which will be on Friday 17 March 2023.

It’s expected to be another fun-filled event at Jamo and a great fundraiser for our school. We are keen to raise money to put towards a new Basketball/Netball court which we certainly need. There will be helpers required so please get on board and help where you can. It’s also incredibly important that we raise as many funds as we can to upgrade our outdoor playing surfaces. Donations can be made through Compass Tix using this link https://compasstix.com/e/izafe7pu7s

HOT CROSS BUN DRIVE

Believe it or not Easter is fast approaching. Bakers Delight Norfolk Plaza have been incredibly generous sponsors of Warrnambool Primary School in the past and we are keen to support their business as part of our annual Hot X Bun drive. The forms will be distributed next week so please support our school and fundraising committee by purchasing Hot X buns through this activity. We know that you will enjoy them.

EASTER RAFFLE

The Easter Raffle is back again this year!

Tickets will be sent home next week and are $1 each. Hamper donations can be made to the school office by Friday 31st March.

SCHOOL COUNCIL MEMBERSHIP

If you are interested in joining our hard-working School Council please let me know. Nominations close Tuesday 28th February 2023.

HIGH SCHOOL OPEN NIGHTS

Warrnambool College and Brauer College have their opening nights coming up in March.
