Hello HPS families!

We are almost half way through Term One!! Wow!

I said in assembly the other day how proud I am of our students and that feeling of pride continues as our students demonstrate kindness and resilience in their everyday actions. It's been a terrific start to the year and I look forward to everything that is coming our way throughout 2023.

LIBRARY BOOKS

Our library is up and running for 2023 thanks to the hard work of our lovely team of 4 - Ms Schultz, Ms Cooper, Ms Ahlgren and Ms Tooba. Please be aware that any books lost this year will incur a fee that will be charged to families to enable us to replace the lost item.

I hope you and your children enjoy all the wonderful reading texts that are on offer and take full advantage of this opportunity.

THANK YOU

A special thank you is extended to our team of parent volunteers who have been working tirelessly both in the Library and at home covering all the Little Learners phonics take home books. This valuable contribution has helped to support the school's work with increasing phonemic awareness and phonics in the junior years through Little Learners Love Literacy.

HILLSMEADE HAPPENINGS

In 2023 we have made an alteration based on feedback from the community, regarding Hillsmeade Happenings (HH). With a new approach this year, we are able to provide HH on a fortnightly basis to the wider school community. HH is a student based tv show that is pre-recorded and previously, in non remote learning years, was only available within the school context. After HH was available during remote learning years, we have made changes to enable community access and we hope you enjoy the presentations that we provide every two weeks via Compass.

NAPLAN 15th-24th March

This year NAPLAN is being held in March for students in Years 3 and 5. Hillsmeade PS completed their first "online" NAPLAN in 2022 and we look forward to having a second go at this, this year. If you are the parent/carer of a student in year 3 or 5 please stay tuned for information that will be sent your way, including communication from Mr Singh regarding ensuring BYOD program devices have the lockdown browser installed.

COMPASS

Just a reminder that Compass is our main form of communication with families. If you do not have a login, please see the office to gain assistance to do so. Updates, dates to remember, notices, newsletters, student reports and more are all found in Compass, as well as the ability to make financial payments. It is a vital resource for everyone here at HPS.

FAMILY FUN NIGHT/HARMONY DAY

This year our Family Fun Night has also coincided with Harmony Day! We look forward to welcoming you all between 3.30pm and 5.30pm on Tuesday 21st March to participate in games and activities to connect our community and celebrate the wide range of diverse cultures we have here at Hillsmeade.

CLASSROOM VOLUNTEER TRAINING

Please keep your eye out for communication regarding having parent/carer volunteers back in our classrooms. We will be providing training opportunities for those who may be interested with assisting in classrooms. Please remember that you must have a volunteer Working with Children Check to be able to participate in/assist with school based activities.  The training will need to be undertaken in order to put your name down as a volunteer.

SCHOOL COUNCIL ELECTIONS

Don't forget to complete the school council elections forms that were sent home this week. We look forward to having community representation voted on by our entire community. Stay tuned for the outcome and we look forward to meeting #1 occurring on 7th March where we will also elect our new School Council President.
