Wellbeing News

Welcome back to SMDP for 2023. We are excited to see all our students and families back and look forward to sharing our wellbeing news with you this year.

This year we have two new members of our Wellbeing Team:

Chiara Genovese is our Learning Diversity Leader and

Simone Whitehead is our Family Engagement Leader

Chiara has written a little paragraph about herself to share with you and we look forward to learning a little more about Simone in our next newsletter.

My name is Chiara Genovese and I am thrilled to be joining St Martin de Porres as the Learning Diversity Leader. I have many years of experience in this field and am passionate about including an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.

Outside of work, I enjoy travelling and exploring new places, learning about different cultures and cuisines. I am also an avid reader and part of a book club. In my spare time, I like to try out new cafes and restaurants with friends and family.

I am looking forward to getting to know each one of you and working together to create a positive learning experience for all students. Thank you for the warm welcome, and I am excited to be a part of this community.

Medical Alert Plans

The Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools(MACS) has updated their Medical Management Policies and procedures for all Catholic Schools to follow and implement.

All students with an identified health care need MUST have a Medical Management Plan (MMP) authorized by the treating medical / health practitioner. The Medical Management Plan needs to be provided to the school.

The child’s registered medical/health practitioner must be consulted by parents/guardians in the development of the Medical Management Plan. The advice from the medical/health practitioner must be documented in the Medical Management Plan (signed and dated by the AHPRA registered practitioner).

Types of Conditions that require a Medical Management Plan can include but are not limited to: ADHD/ADD, Eczema, Eating Disorders, Hearing, Vision, Diabetes, Continence, Asthma, Anaphylaxis, and Epilepsy etc

All medical management plans should (as relevant to the circumstances) detail the following:

  • details of the diagnosed health care need, allergy or relevant medical condition including the severity of the condition and general care requirements
  • any current medication prescribed for the child
  • the response required from the school in relation to the emergence of symptoms
  • any medication required to be administered at school or in response to an acute episode or an emergency
  • the response required if the child does not respond to initial treatment
  • access to community health services or when to call an ambulance for assistance.

Medication Authority Form

Any students requiring medication to be administered at school (including creams that are applied to the skin) need to have completed a Medication Authority Form (MAF) by the parent and doctor.

This document will provide instructions on the administration of the medicine to the student. Please speak to your child’s classroom teacher if you need a copy of the Medication Authority Form.
