Kitchen Garden

3/4C had their first session in the Kitchen Garden today. They completed a garden treasure hunt, familiarising themselves with the space and had time to come up with a group name. The group are The Tomatoes, The Shredders, JEPK Gardeners, Hot Chilli Peppers and The Pink Beans. In small groups, lead by our wonderful volunteer parents and grandparents, the children were busy planting lettuce and cauliflower, fertilising and feeding the rhubarb, mixing the compost, adding shredded newspaper and coffee grounds to the compost bins, chopping and digging in green manure crops, adding compost to garden beds, covering sunflower heads to stop the birds eating the seed (we need some seed for next season) and picking fresh beans to snack on while we had the reflection circle to end the session.

It’s great to have the children back in the garden.
