At St Mary’s, we are fortunate to be able to provide a wide range of support for the academic, social and emotional needs of students and families.
In 2023, we will be supported by Michelle Sanders (Education Officer - Learner Diversity CES), Carly Hill (CES Psychologist) and Amy Stanton (CES Speech Pathologist). CES staff will be visiting St Mary’s on a per needs basis and also assisting with our delivering of programs and support for students with additional learning needs. We will also be submitting Consultation Requests to the CES to support students learning as the need arises.
We will also be supported by our wonderful ESO’s - Kate Stewart, Laura Martin & Jennie Hayes. These wonderful people have already begun their work in classrooms and are excited to be working with students for the year ahead. Intervention Programs will be launching in the next few weeks once our beginning of year assessments have been completed. Parents of children involved in intervention will receive information about their child’s learning as their intervention program commences.
Classroom teachers follow a pre-referral process which enables assessments and data to be collected if there are concerns regarding a student's learning both in the classroom and playground. Sometimes ongoing observations are required to enable further support to be engaged.
If parents have concerns about their child’s development or their social/emotional needs they can discuss them firstly, with the child’s class teacher or with myself as Learner Diversity Leader and a plan can be created to best engage support for the child.
We are fortunate to have access to services provided by the Catholic Education Sandhurst following a referral process through Learning Diversity (also referred to as a Consultation Request). This service provides us with access to a Speech Pathologist, an Education Officer and a Psychologist (as listed above). This service is shared across a number of schools in the diocese.
As Learning Diversity Leader I have the privilege of working in partnership with our students and families along with all of the people in these groups, the teachers, Leadership and student support agencies, in an effort to provide the best possible outcomes for all students at St Mary’s Primary School Rushworth. I am looking forward to seeing the academic, social and emotional growth the children will make in 2023.
