Prep - Year 6

Head of Primary Update

A new school year is a very exciting time! New teachers, new classes and new friends!  Building relationships is really important at this time so that very soon, everyone will feel part of the Bayside Christian College Community.

This year we welcome 38 students into Prep along with another 16 new students across Years 1-6. It has been impressive to see the way that they are settling into Bayside with the support of other students.

The Primary Student Leaders are wearing their badges and starting to take on their leadership responsibilities with much enthusiasm. Last Thursday, a morning tea was held in G-Block as an opportunity for parents to meet and they were served by some of the student leaders.

God Bless,

Glenys Bailey, Head of Primary

Swimming Carnival

Due to the forecast of inclement weather, the Primary Swimming Carnival has been rescheduled for Monday 27 March.

Ashton Scholastic Book Club

Brochures have been distributed to students. All orders are to be placed online by Wednesday 16 February. The orders will be sent to the school and distributed. Mrs Kate Williams is facilitating the Ashton Scholastic Book Club again this year, and her help is greatly appreciated.

Canteen and Icypoles

The Canteen opened this week and primary students can order using the classroom bag system. Students place their order and money in their class bag and monitors deliver the orders to the students at lunchtime. Preps can start ordering their lunches from the beginning of March.

Please be reminded there are no over-the-counter sales for Primary Students. Our student leaders are selling icy-poles for 50 cents at lunchtime in Term 1, outside the LOTE room. Correct change is appreciated.

Meet the Teacher

On Thursday 9 March 3:15-4pm, parents were invited into primary classrooms and G-Block foyer to meet the classroom and specialist teachers.

Primary School Information

An email with video links from teachers of the Primary Learning Teams will be sent out. The videos will provide information relevant to each of the specific teams as well as general information. Please take the time to view the videos.

As students cumulatively increase their number of laps they receive a milestone certificate.

Milestone certificates are: 10 laps, 25 laps, 50 laps, 100 laps, etc. Students' laps are recorded by our year 6 leaders, and they will hand out the certificates at assembly.

Chess Club

Chess Club has started back for students in Years 3-6, with many enthusiastic players joining us in the gym on Monday at lunchtime.

Did you know that the game of chess is considered highly beneficial to brain development and academic achievement, and is thought to improve memory and concentration, enhance problem solving abilities and promote creativity? Playing chess can also positively reduce risk aversion in children.

Don’t know how to play? We have many ‘experts’ eager to help new students learn the rules of the game, so we encourage you to come and try it out next Monday!

Year 3/4 News

The Years 3/4s explored lots of STEAM problem solving games and activities in the first week of school. It was a great way to connect with other students and have some creative fun.

On Wednesday, all the 3/4 classes made solar ovens. We had so much fun! We made solar ovens out of: pizza boxes, sticks, foil, tape, glue, black paper and a plastic sheet. On Friday, we are going to test them out by cooking Smores! All the 3/4 classes are very excited to cook and eat delicious smores. It is going to be really sunny on Friday so the solar ovens should work very well. - Annabelle G 3/4T
