Junior School

This week has been as busy as ever! I went on two trips with students to participate with other students in great activities. On Tuesday, I took the JS Leaders to St Paul’s Grammar to be a part of the HICES Leadership Day. Our students were there with ten other schools and were outstanding all day – their behavior, attitude, willingness to be challenged and their ideas to help serve others at our school were all amazing. Another Head of Junior School remarked that all of our students display an openness and confidence that is noticeable, and I couldn’t have felt prouder.

Grammar kids can chat confidently with teachers and adults in the Junior School. They can ask for help, deliver messages, chat about interesting topics and share their ideas with confidence that they will be heard. Two of our leaders helped escort members of the public around our Wentworth Falls campus on Saturday’s Open Day. They were incredibly impressive to listen to, and proud of being part of this school. They told prospective parents and their children why they love coming here – how they feel cared for, how they get to do exciting things when they learn and how they get to try so many things.

In a couple of weeks our Year 3 and Year 5 students will complete NAPLAN testing. This gives us a school some helpful information and we can use that in planning our teaching and learning. It can help us work with individuals to set some learning goals. We certainly want all of our students to be making improvements as they sit those tests every two years. But it’s not NAPLAN or the HSC which define success for our students. It’s the everyday interactions we have where we see their willingness to reflect, to reach out and treat others kindly, to take a risk and try something hard. In those moments, we see that Grammar kids are successful already, and just getting better!

Term 1 - Week 5

The  BMGS Swish had a bye and remain at the top of the ladder by one point.

The BMGS Slam Dunks had another excellent game this week, although we lost, out defence was excellent. The girls came together as a team much better this week by driving the ball to the basket more frequently and playing a better passing game. To say I’m proud of their determination and their fighting spirit is an understatement.

The BMGS Raptors played the Not Ballerz and the Not Ballerz won 0 to 6. They then played the Night furies and won 6 to 4. Congratulations toe Sebastian N, Alexander and Jari for scoring. Their second game was a really exciting game and it was great to see all the players contributing to the win by great passing and awesome defending.

BMGS Blue Whales played the Bench Warmers and also had a close and exciting game. The Blue Whales won 4 to 2. Their next game was a loss but at least more points were scored. They played the Not Ballerz. Harry and Hugo managed to sink some amazing shots which resulted in a final score of 6 to 12.

The Blaxland Scorchers are now gearing up for their winter competition so if you are keen to put in a team and play with your BMGS friends, with a parent or Scorchers’ coach, or are happy to register as a player and are happy to be assigned to a different team, please fill out the player registration form that has been emailed to your parents and I will take care of the rest. An email was sent to your parents on Wednesday 1st March outlining what they will need to do. If you are a parent who is happy to coach a team, please let me know by emailing me on lgerrard@bmgs.nsw.edu.au
