Captains' Conference

Collaborating on shared goals

Our NHS student leaders Captains' Conference last Friday  was a great opportunity to meet and collaborate with the other student leaders from different year levels. Our day started with a speech from Mr Jones, we then heard from NHS graduates Grace and Sophie, followed by some members of the Darebin youth council services, Raquel and Lindsay.

After recess, we brainstormed ways to further integrate the school houses: Merri, Plenty, Sumner, and Cooper, into the school culture. We did this in our house groups, before presenting to the rest of the leaders. We hope that, by making the houses a bigger part of school culture, we can create a feeling of connectedness between people of the same house in the school.

For the last two periods of the day, we worked on issues that are specific to our year level or role in the school. The sport captains worked on issues related to the upcoming Year 7 swimming carnival and whole school athletics day, the Year 10 captains discussed the Year 7 welcome picnic, as the Year 10s are also the peer support leaders. The Year 11s went through the survey we conducted at the start of the school year and came up with a list of priorities for the year.

It was a very productive day, and we were very grateful to Ms. Sirec for organising the event.
