From the Principal

Term one is now underway and students are settling in well to their respective year levels. We have been encouraging all students to get involved in the various extracurricular activities offered in our wonderful school community.  We are delighted to see students already embracing this with 250 students attending the first meeting our 2023 production “We will rock you” and record-breaking sign-ups for our sports teams.

Last week was also the beginning of our Basketball Academy run by Players First and we were impressed by the number of students attending the tryouts. This is a new and exciting partnership for 2023, and we hope that as many students as possible get the opportunity to be part of the training sessions. Our Volleyball Program is also up and running with students attending their first coaching sessions and signing up for teams. After a successful interstate competition in Queensland last year, our senior teams are already planning their end of year Queensland Tour.

In addition to our Performing Arts and interschool sports, we are excited to announce that our clubs program is back up and running. Our Student Services team, who oversee the different clubs and activities, have been spruiking heavily for our staff to kickstart the year. Our activities include: Art Club, STEM Club, FemCo, Debating and Robotics. I am looking forward to the upcoming expo to showcase what each of the groups will be planning for 2023. You can read more about the expo from Student Services later in this edition.

Last week, our local State Member Kat Theophanous visited to highlight the International Day for Women and Girls in Science. During her visit, she met with two of our senior science students; Millie and Mia, who shared their interests in science subjects while looking at the site for the new building. Kat expressed her continued support for the Masterplan, the Library STEM centre as well as our next priority project a new school gymnasium.

Our Year 12 school captains also had the opportunity to meet with Kat as their first official welcome party. They had the opportunity to talk about what they enjoy about the school and their tertiary studies that they are aspiring to.

This week we are running two welcome events for our families; the Year 7 Family Picnic and a Year 12 Meet and Greet. I do hope that you are able to join us and I hope to meet you at the events.
