First XI Cricket

Blackfriars played Trinity in game 3. Blackfriars lost the toss and were sent into bowl first. It was a perfect start – Ralph with a wicket on his first delivery and then another in his second over. Consistent bowling from Criscitelli at the other end ensured runs were difficult to make. At drinks, Trinity were 6/71 with Cornish and Koutroulis-Duke amongst the wickets. The next batting partnership proved difficult to break as the runs added up. Trinity were all bowled out for 160. Cornish 4/27, Ralph 3/32 and Koutroulis-Duke 2/15. Gray and O’Leary opened the batting. Blackfriars were off to a shaky start until a partnership between Ralph and Flanagan steadied the innings. Flanagan (38) was batting exceptionally well until he was contentiously dismissed being caught on the boundary line. At drinks, Blackfriars were 5/77. Good partnerships were formed with the lower order batsmen. Cornish (23), Krenske (21) and Ross (10) all making valuable contributions in a critical stage of the match. With six overs to go and 15 runs to win, Koutroulis-Duke and Smith were at the crease. Every ball was crucial and they found runs on the bad ball. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough as the team fell short by a narrow four runs! Blackfriars were all bowled out for 156.

Blackfriars played St Peter’s in game 4. Blackfriars won the toss and elected to bat. Wickets fell early until a 37 run 4th wicket partnership between Singh and Cornish steadied the innings. Ralph contributed to the runs before the team was all bowled out for 104. Criscitelli took a wicket in his first over then Ralph in the fourth over. Runs were being scored freely and were difficult to stop. Blackfriars took a third wicket before the target was reached in 23 overs. Blackfriars lost the match by seven wickets.
