Year 5 Ballarat Camp Student Reflection

In Week 4 the Year 5 classes went to Ballarat to enhance our learning about the Gold Rush.

On Tuesday we all arrived at school at 7:30am and loaded the bus with our luggage. At 8:00am we got on the bus to get ready for a long bus trip. During our trip we stopped at Keith and Horsham. After the long trip we arrived in Ballarat and unpacked our luggage off the bus. A couple of hours later we went for a night walk and saw a possum with a baby on its back. Then we got back and had pasta for dinner and everyone got sent back to their cabins for bed.

On Wednesday people woke up at around 6:00 - 7:00am so we could eat breakfast. After that we had a 30-50 minute play time around the place. Around 10 minutes later we went to Sovereign Hill. At Sovereign Hill we had an education and then we were separated into three groups. We all went separate ways to do some shopping. After that the groups regrouped and we had a lunch break and a toilet break. We went into the mines and panned for gold. Then we were headed back to camp. Once we arrived back at camp we had dinner and went to our cabins to get changed. We then went back to Sovereign Hill for a pantomime.

On Thursday we went to the Eureka museum and saw the Eureka flag and we did some activities. Then we went back for lunch and did our camp activities which were go carting, going in a mine and orienteering. Then we packed our bags to get ready to leave Ballarat. After we packed our bags we had a shower, ate dinner, did some school work and had a quiz night. Then we went to bed.

On Friday we woke up at around 6:00 - 7:00am so we could eat breakfast. After eating breakfast, we went to our cabins to pack our luggage and to clean our cabins. After cleaning and packing, we went to our bus and started the journey back to Adelaide. After around 2-3 hours we stopped to buy our lunch. We were allowed to eat from any of these following fast food restaurants: Subway, Hungry Jacks, KFC and McDonalds. After eating we went back to our bus to get back to Blackfriars.

We all had a fantastic time at camp. We learnt a lot and would highly recommend the camp to others.
