Year 12 International Students' Farewell Lunch

How time flies! The “big exams” are just around the corner.

To celebrate our Year 12 international students finishing their formal classes at school this week, a farewell lunch was held on Tuesday, 8 October. This was to wish them good luck in their coming exams and future endeavours, but also to celebrate their achievements and completion of high school studies.

The event began with a warm welcome by Ms McMaster, followed by a slideshow of photographs that brought back fantastic memories of the students' time at Doncaster Secondary College.

During the event, students enjoyed chatting to each other and to their beloved teachers, to whom they expressed their appreciation for the  support they've received over the years.

A Message of Thanks

I would like to express my sincere appreciation to all the teachers at Doncaster Secondary College.

It is great to have had this opportunity to learn overseas and broaden our views, being able to observe how the world really is, instead of reading from others' experiences. And most importantly, receiving care and support from the school and teachers whenever we needed. This really provided a sense of encouragement, so we could improve ourselves while being far away from home.

I am probably the one who has been at the school for the longest among current international students, and I can see with my eyes the changes the school has made to improve our study environment.

I feel that it is not only our studies that the school and teachers care about, but also our living and mental health, and our overall experience as part of the international program.

My First Weekend in Melbourne!

Tien Hieu (Harry) Bui is a newly arrived international student from Vietnam. Here is a reflection of his first weekend discovering our city.

With sunny weather of about 20 degrees, yesterday was a beautiful day to hang out. I decided to invite Oliver, my housemate, to go to the city. Melbourne Central was the first destination, where we bought huge cups of drink from 7Eleven that tasted amazing.

We had a walk around Melbourne Central and took some pictures. Melbourne is amazing with spectacular buildings and lots of trams. After having lunch at McDonalds, we decided to go to Melbourne Museum but we took a wrong turn and had the chance to visit RMIT. Melbourne Museum was incredible but we arrived there too late at 4.30 pm, so we could only explore a small part of it.

We had dinner at a delicious Japanese restaurant and then went back home.

It was a beautiful day out and I can’t say what I liked most, but I love this city and it’s so good to be here.

Student Reflections

Our DSC international students not only study hard, but also know how to relax and enjoy life during the holidays. Here are reflections from three of our international students about their recent adventures.

We asked the questions: Where did you go during the school holidays and who did you go with? What did you enjoy the most?

"I went back to Hong Kong during the holidays. I went to Disneyland, the Peak, the Big Buddha, Sky100 and Victoria Harbour with my father, mother and sister. The most enjoyable part of my visit was going to Disneyland for two days and staying in the Disneyland hotel".

Jeffrey S, 9C

"Over the holidays I went to the Dandenong Ranges National Park with my friends, where I enjoyed the beautiful view and forest. The air was so fresh there and it made us happy and calm."

Jefferson J, 11H

"I visited Melbourne Zoo, the Victorian parliament, Fitzroy Gardens and the Warrandyte River Reserve with my mother. The most enjoyable and interesting place was the zoo, because I saw some very interesting animals for the first time in my life."
