WHAT’S HAPPENING IN DANCE?

The Australian Ballet visits Wanganui

We have just had an incredible two weeks working with the Australian ballet in a special residency program funded by the Australian Ballet and The Fairley Foundation. Special thanks to Sandy Gunn from the Better Together Alliance for making this opportunity possible. Our students received 10 hours of free training with two professional dancers who collaborated and choreographed a new dance work with our students. The performances from our school and the other schools in the Alliance took place on Friday 2nd June in the Visy Theatrette. The students all did an incredible job and absolutely enjoyed their experience. We were also treated to a special performance of Sleeping Beauty by the Ballet dancers. This is the first of a 3 year partnership with funding that has been established. Some staff and students were also interviewed for a special documentary being made by the Australian Ballet media team. Out of the 72 schools they visited last year, we (the BT Alliance) were chosen to be a part of it! Special thanks to Kane Wilson (Year 11) and Tim Filliponi (Year 11) for all of their efforts to set up the Theatrette space and operate the lighting and sound equipment.

WPSC VMG Dance Showcase

It was showcase time again on Tuesday 6th June. There was lots of enthusiasm and rehearsal going on for our first VMG Dance showcase for 2017. This semester we presented small groups, solo and class work, plus the work from the Australian Ballet experience. Special thanks to Tanya Sayers Dance Academy for sponsoring some of our amazing costumes and to local businesses for sponsoring our raffle – Harris Scarfe, Noble Monks, Bakers Delight, Delightful Rainglow & Ivy & Indi Handmade. Congratulations to all of the students involved! It was fantastic!
