YEAR 12 GRADUATION

Last week we had the great pleasure of congratulating and acknowledging the contributions of our 2019 Graduating class.  The Valedictory Dinner on Wednesday night was attended by over 600 people, and the students spoke brilliantly in highlighting some of their memories they take away from school.  Noah Culpan, our media trainee, presented three terrific video presentations which captured images and recollections from across the years, and these were extremely well received.  On Thursday we again had a terrific audience for the Graduation Assembly.  We were extremely proud of the students for the manner in which they finished their time at the school, and their speeches contained a wonderful combination of humour and sincerity.

Our VCE students are now actively preparing for the exam period which has now just commenced, whilst our VCAL graduates are already on their way with their next steps following secondary school.

The events reminded us what a wonderful school community we have been fortunate to experience, and I look forward to continuing this sort of tradition as we enter a new era of education across Greater Shepparton.

College Captains 2020

This year four girls and five boys nominated for the positions on the college leadership team for 2020. All staff and students were invited to participate in the voting process that was held under strict voting procedures over four lunchtimes in Week 2 starting immediately after the candidates gave their campaign speeches at a full school assembly. The leaders were announced at the Graduation Assembly last Thursday morning. Our college leadership team for 2020 will be Myah Tremellen, Campbell Allen and Olivia Boschetti. They will be joined by leaders from Mooroopna SC and Shepparton High School to form a team that will represent the College at official functions as well as lead the school in so many other in-school events. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our 2019 leaders in Pat Jacobson, Ella Kerr, Brodie Poole and Claire Macgill for the tremendous example they set for others to follow.

Year 10 to Year 11 Orientation Program

In light of the success of our orientation program for Year 11 students entering Year 12, we have decided to extend this program to include a week for our Year 10 students entering Year 11. This will take place in the week commencing Monday, 2nd December. Students will follow a similar timetable to the one they will have in 2020, with the majority of the teachers being the same ones they will have next year. We believe this is a really valuable way for students to commence their all-important VCE studies.

End-Of-Year Activities

Planning for the end of year activities program has commenced and these events will take place on Monday, 16th December and Tuesday, 17th December. Students have had an opportunity to select full day activities. All Year 7 to 9 students are expected to take part in the end of year activities and we look forward to your support with this program.

PROGRESSIVE REPORTING AND SPA

Teachers have just completed writing Cycle 4 of SPA and progressive reports for all students from Years 7 to 10. As the Year 11 exams are so close, Year 11 students will only receive a SPA report. These reports will be available to parents/guardians and students on Monday, 4th November.

YEAR 8 TO YEAR 9 TRANSITION UPDATE:

Beginning the week of November 11th, all current Year 8 students across the three schools will travel by bus to Mooroopna for a “getting to know you” activity. Sessions will take place from 11 to 12:30pm each day of the week, except the Wednesday.

Wanganui Park students will head to Mooroopna 45 at a time, the list being constructed alphabetically by last name. Closer to the date, students will have access to the lists on the F1 windows.

The 2020 Neighbourhood Leaders and the Principal class will be conducting the sessions in the first week.

To follow, in weeks 7 and 8 of term, each student will experience another two sessions- this time these will be classes in the area of Arts, P.E, English or Science. These classes will be taken by the 2020 teachers of Mooroopna Campus.

It was wonderful to see so many students excited by the elective choices they have made for 2020. The Elective Subject Selection Counselling Day was well attended and we are now in the process of determining which units are able to run.
