On Tuesday 29th August, the Year 9 SOSE classes attended a full-day excursion to Richmond as part of our SOSE unit ‘Making a Nation’, focusing on our colonial history and development of nationhood and identity. We visited a number of historical sites, including the Richmond Gaol, St John the Evangelist Church, St Luke’s Anglican Church and the Richmond Bridge. We also explored the ‘Old Hobart Town Model Village’ which is based on what Hobart would have been like in 1820. This was a wonderful opportunity to experience a part of our history in a physical, interactive way outside of the classroom, made even more enjoyable by the temperate weather conditions and a visit to the Richmond bakery and lolly shop!
Year 9 SOSE Teachers: Mr D Adams & Mr K Jansen.
Yesterday Grade 10 students travelled by bus to Launceston for the Bible Society Masterclass with John Dickson, as investment in their spiritual development, and to prepare them to be better leaders within their school and local community. They listened to engaging speakers inspire the next generation to grow in their knowledge of God; encourage the students to love others and challenge them to discern the best choices to make on their Christian journey. The event included a 'Hot Topics' Q&A panel.
$364 was raised by the Southern Christian College school community through the Entertainment Book fundraiser! This money will support the orphanage in Indonesia. Well done!

We have a baby boy: Gilbert Peter Isham, born at 4:09pm, 3.5kgs. Emily was as always a superwoman! Name means Bright Pledge or Hopeful Promise. Peter means 'Rock'.
The next assembly is for PRIMARY students only and will be held on Monday 4th September at 9:20am.
On Friday 1st September Grade 9 and 10 Music students together with SCC Concert Band students, will visit the Conservatorium of Music and see the UTAS Southern College's Wind Ensemble perform. This ensemble is run by Dr Sean Priest (brother of Mrs Ortiz in the Early Learning!) The ensemble is a collaboration of all the best college music students and will be an exciting and engaging program selected to ‘showcase’ wind and brass. Students will travel to and from the Conservatorium by bus.
Grade 11 students will take part in a Caving Expedition from Friday 1st September - Sunday 3rd September. Students will camp at the Mole Creek camping ground and visit the Honeycombe Caves.
An important part of the Duke of Edinburgh award is the “Adventurous Journey”. It involves an expedition or exploration in an unfamiliar and challenging environment, with a clear purpose. More than any other section of The Duke of Ed, the Adventurous Journey is about team work and social connection with both the team members who will undertake the journey, and the Duke of Edinburgh Instructor. Caving is a great sport exploring the hidden world beneath the Earth’s surface, seeing beautiful underground formations and having the adventure of a lifetime. Students will travel by SCC bus, leaving at 3.30pm on Friday and returning Sunday afternoon.
The P&F are organising a working bee for the school on Saturday 2nd September. Below are some of the jobs which we will aim to complete. Please contact the P&F via email to let them know how you can help: pandf@scc.tas.edu.au

A fundraiser for Indigenous Literacy will be held next Thursday, 7th September as part of Indigenous Book Week. Funds raised will go to the Mutijulu Community in Uluru, where Mrs Dolliver and Ben visited earlier this year!
We would love EVERYONE to bring a book to swap and donate a gold coin! We have lots of spare books that others might like to read. Bring a book and swap with someone else and help someone in Northern Australia to read. If we can raise $1000 we can help schools buy books in Indigenous languages or English.
We will have a special area for donated books in the Library.
On Wednesday 20th September at 7pm, students from our MYP & DP Music and Drama classes will be presenting samples of their work. “Live Performance” is part of the assessment process and rather than keep their amazing talent for the enjoyment of only their fellow classmates, they will be sharing it with you. The evening will be a mix of dramatic duologues, scintillating band music, beautiful solos and crazy improv scenes. Tea & coffee will be available.
The Café is open 5 mornings a week from 7:50-9am and is available for staff and parents to purchase morning teas or coffees. The money is helping to support CityLight Missions’ vouchers for families in need. You can support the Café by either purchasing drinks or through direct donations to CityLight Missions.
Wanted: Donations of Lego which your children have grown out of, to be used in the library at lunchtimes.
