Year 10 Textiles

Students generated some lovely work in Textiles during remote learning.

Year 10 student, Viviana Bartolome created her piece, 'From Daggy to Doggy' by taking an old item of clothing and refashioning it into a stylish dog coat.

She outlines her creative process below

Lucy Mason, also in Year 10, created a gorgeous denim bucket hat.

Well done girls!

Year 7 Textiles

Year 7 Textiles students have been back at school for just over a week now.

Scrambling to set up lock down was a challenge as the students refine and practise many skills before they are ready to make their major Textiles project which was a shopping bag decorated with their own hand stitching and applique work.    The shopping bag is proudly sustainable.  Made with double stitching for durability, reusable, 100% cotton calico, plastic free Nano particles, individual designs and large capacity for any shopping the students can manage.

Working in lockdown was difficult for some, but all rose to the challenge.  Setting up work at home meant that students did not have one-on- one encouragement, close up demonstrations or timelines to follow.  This was unknown territory for us all. Students who were able to take supplies home found themselves working and learning in a new space,  watching YouTube clips and managing their own trouble shooting.

Yes, lots of questions were asked in the Microsoft Teams classroom space and yes, we did guide them, but essentially the Year 7 cohort were refining new skills of listening, IT functionality and best of all – self-expression on their own.   I am very proud of the work that the girls achieved.

We are now in phase two of the shopping bags where all students will have the opportunity to sew the bags with the designs they created remotely, either in class or during Seam Rippers club.

Thank you Year 7 Textiles students, you are amazing!
