Languages

Year 7 Japanese

This term in Japanese we have been learning mainly about communication like, "How old are you?", "What’s your name?" and "What’s your phone number?" To be able to answer some of these questions we needed to learn how to count in Japanese up to 100.

This has been made easier with the help of Education Perfect. Education Perfect is a website that we use to enhance our understanding and fluency of the language we are studying.

We have also been doing mini Hiragana tests after learning 46 Hiragana characters.

Year 7

Year 8 Japanese

Learning Japanese this year has been very eventful. Remote learning, assessment tasks, Education Perfect Language Championships. All of it has been fun.

It was super helpful to have extra time in Japanese lessons to work on our Education Perfect score during the Championships. I worked hard and achieved a score of 5006 and received an Emerald Award. Thankfully, we didn’t have many assessment tasks during our time at home. It has been very useful to have a workbook to do exercises in to help learn Japanese. And I think we can all agree that one of the best parts of remote learning was all the 'Kahoots' quizzes we played!

I started Japanese last year so far we have learnt about animals, stationery, colours and more.

Overall, Japanese is a very enjoyable language to learn and I really do recommend giving it a go!

Year 8

Year 11 Japanese

Over the past few weeks at school, the Year 11 Japanese students have been busily writing and preparing for their upcoming SAC, a research task on a selected Japanese topic.

We have been researching about Japanese culture, including anime, high school life, traditional clothing, contemporary fashion, foods, music, festivals and then writing about our research findings in Japanese.

The task has its challenges but we can do this!

Year 11

Year 12 Japanese

Currently in Year 12 Japanese, the students are preparing for the upcoming Unit 3 Outcome 2 SAC based on the new study design. It has been interesting to learn new Japanese sentence structures and grammar patterns and a lot of the students have been studying hard and asking questions to assist in understand the language.

In preparation for the external end of year oral exam, we have been meeting with Mr Hideaki Sakurai regularly for 10 minute individual practice sessions in addition to Yamanaka sensei’s Japanese lessons. In leading up to the practice, topics such as travel in Japan, Japanese food, drinks and shopping in Japan have all been covered so far and discussed in detail.

We have also discovered that a great way to understand how to speak Japanese is to listen to Japanese people, which can we can see via Japanese shows such as 'Terrace House' on Netflix. This also allows us to listen to different accents across Japan. I definitely recommend watching as it is interesting and you are able to learn a lot.
