Junior School

First Week Back!

Prep/1M had a wonderful first week back at school.   The students fell into the new routine of washing/sanitising hands, having drink bottles on tables and being mindful of catching their coughs and sneezes.  It was important for us to have a focus on emotional and mental wellbeing in the classroom and connecting socially with others again through play and conversation.  It has also been important to validate the student’s feelings about remote learning, returning to the classroom and being with their friends again; so our morning circle time has been crucial for group discussions!

During the week, each child made a friendship envelope which were stuck at the back of the classroom and each day, time was allocated to write friendship notes for each other to post in each other’s envelopes. The students have really enjoyed this activity and it will continue for a few more weeks.

I want to take this opportunity again to say a huge thank you to the wonderful families, not only for supporting your child’s education but also for being mindful about your conversations and explanations with your children about the state of the world, the virus and its effect as well as why we must all play our part to keep each other safe.  This has definitely contributed to the students integrating smoothly into the classroom again and easing children’s fears about the whole situation.
