2020 THEME - EMPOWERING LEARNING & TEACHING

Positive Climate for Learning

Part of the definition of 'Positive Climate for Learning' includes empowering students in their ability to think and work for themselves. It has been amazing to see not just students step up to this mark, but the whole school community. We have all had to learn new ways of working remotely, learn new technology, and learn new ways of staying connected. Even though the community is keeping physical distance from each other, I feel that we are certainly remaining connected. What an amazing achievement for those students who have been able to achieve so much learning this term already, and to all families and staff for supporting them.

SeeSaw App

As you know, this year we have spent much time supporting families to access the SeeSaw app as a way of communicating with their teacher. Since last week, we have had the following increase in Seesaw usage from families:

·         80% take up from our parent community

·         an increase of 70 more parents using platform in the last month (122 parents to 192 parents)

The amount of videos, photos, comments, and positive communication has been fantastic from so many of you which really is demonstrating a positive climate across the school. Please continue to use this platform as way of communication and sharing of work that is being completed. If you require assistance, please ask your classroom teacher to help.

Student and Family Wellbeing

During this time is it really important that we look after ourselves. We are all in new territory and it is easy to forget our own wellbeing and students wellbeing too.  When we look after our own wellbeing, it gives us focus, a sense of direction, and gives us motivation. To help ourselves and your children, you can engage in some daily positive activities. Here are some examples;

  • 30 minutes of physical exercise each day. eg; taking your dog for a walk, running, star jumps, 'Just Dance' videos from youtube,  throwing a ball with a partner.
  • Eat healthy foods.  e.g. fruit, chopped vegetables, water
  • Take brain breaks every hour to get some fresh air and keep our minds fresh
  • Stay connected with people through phone and video conferencing.
  • Take a break from screen time. Switch off your mobile phone at 8pm each night

Each meeting with staff, we are using some Care Check Questions at the beginning of the meeting, where staff can reflect on questions such as;

  • Are you ok?
  • What did you achieve yesterday?
  • What are your goals for today?
  • Are there any challenges you might face with these goals?

By doing this, we are continually checking in with each other and showing support. Setting yourself some goals each day can really help you remain optimistic and have a positive sense of worth. Staff have received a wellbeing goal list where they make themselves accountable for looking after themselves. Although working remotely may continue for some time yet, it is good to know that we all have some ways to look after ourselves. Please ask your teacher for further support with this if you need to.

Contact with Classroom Teachers

Reminder to parents / carers: In order for teachers to best support you, it is necessary for the school to maintain a record of attendance during this time. Can families please make sure that they check in with their teacher each morning of the week, just as they would normally. This can be done via email,

See-Saw or Webex.
