ACC Sport & House News

Sporting News Update
With the college about to slowly reopen things will take some time until they get back to our new normal. At this stage there will be NO ACC Sport in Term 2. The ACC Principals have expressed their concerns about trying to cram all our lost sport into the last 2 terms of the year. With lost teaching time the ACC Executive will make decisions on which sports will go ahead when we have the approval from the state authorities. It is great that some teams are getting back to training at local level. With our large numbers at the 3 colleges, trying to get groups of 10 on half an oval or pitch is nearly impossible to do with current self-distancing guidelines. We will endeavour to seek as many positive outcomes as possible. It is our hope that term 3 will resume as normal for house sport and some limited ACC games.
We are still awaiting news on the National Volleyball Tournament and States. Both organising bodies have expressed a desire to run both tournaments if possible.
No decisions have been made whether Oblate Cricket will go ahead in Brisbane in December. The 3 Oblate Colleges have has some preliminary discussions on how this may run and also at a different time. Details will be posted once confirmed.
ACC Sport- Run Challenge - Your Call and Trick Shot Challenge
The ACC have also joined in promoting physical health and well-being by putting together a number of activities that students from all the ACC Colleges can join in and see how they fare against each other. There is opportunities for students to compete against students and colleges against colleges.
The first challenge is a run challenge. We are asking students to log their runs in the link below and see it build. Students can when they have scheduled lunch breaks or during PE classes go out and run a few kms. We are looking at students in years 7-9 running 3 kms as per the ACC Cross Country distance and the Yr. 10-12 5 kms? Click on the link below which will take you to the details of the challenge and away you go!
For the Trick Shot and Your Call Challenge get your videos together and send to the ACC via the links on the web page. They can be downloaded and winners will be announced in all categories.
Keep an eye on the ACC Website as there are a number of new challenges coming over the next few weeks.

ONE ON ONE COACHING – AFL COACH & FORMER MAZENOD TEACHER MR. DAMIAN CARROLL
In these uncertain times with the structure of junior football under review, former Mazenod staff member and current Hawthorn Assistant coach Mr Damian Carroll is available for individual tuition and guidance for a fee. The opportunity to get advice from someone at the elite level is invaluable and could make a huge difference in helping guide your football future. The program can involve some 1 on 1 coaching and skill sessions. If you are interested in taking up this opportunity please contact me at the college with your details and I will pass them onto Damian. Email Mr Connolly at:
MazCom- Mazenod Sport & Physical Education
Mr Phibbs has led the sports department in putting together some online activities and skill sessions that can be done by students following a number of different web links. It can be easily found on MazCom under the sports tile. It gives some tips and videos on general exercises that can and should be done. There are also many apps that can be downloaded and are easy to follow. We are encouraging that when students were timetabled to do sport or PE, that they use this time to complete at least 30 minutes of exercise. It can be as simple as a 30 minute walk, ride or home-made exercise circuit. PE teachers are always available for emails and happy to share ideas with students. Mr Phibbs has also recommended 6 free Apps that can be downloaded to most phones. They are great at giving a step by step account of what is required in terms of physical activity. I would recommend all students trying one of these 3-5 times a week.
