Remote Learning

We have survived 8 weeks of remote learning. I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all of the Year 10 students who have been engaging in working on-line on Compass and on Microsoft Teams.  During this time you have showcased your ability to tackle adversity with a positive attitude and highlighted your resilience in difficult times. To all the parents who have supported their learner, I would also like to say a big thank you for your ongoing support and engagement in learning during remote learning.

Return to school

I encourage you to remind your children about their responsibilities in social distancing as we continue the transition back to on-site learning and become accustomed to the new normal as well as the differences they may find at school, including that teachers will try and maintain a greater distance from them. One of the lessons we’ll be trying to get through early on is understanding how other people feel about the world at the moment and developing empathy for the anxiety that Covid-19 has created in others.

2020 Year 10 Camp

After consultation with families it was decided that we will postponing the Year 10 Queensland camp. Whilst we wait for confirmation from the tour company, in regards to new flights and accommodation, I would like to inform you that at this stage the camp dates will be 24th – 29th November  (the last week of Year 10). This all being said, we will not be travelling unless we have full Department of Education and Trainingn approval. Once we have final confirmation of the trip, I will be sending out a new itinerary, payment plan and travel details. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Semester 2

Lastly I would like to wish our Year 10 families a great semester break. I look forward to tackling the challenges that Semester 2 brings including pathway choices (VCE and VCAL)subject selection, work experience, plus many other opportunities we offer here at Maffra Secondary College. I would like to encourage all families to take a couple of hours over the holidays to read the Year 11 subject guide, we will be spending some time in Learning to Learn unpacking the opportunities next year brings. It is important that as we start the transition process and your son/daughter understands the choices they are about to make.
