Update on Assessment & Reporting

Semester 1 Reports

Teachers have been busy finalising assessments and completing  semester reports which have been published this week. Due to the impact of Remote Learning, some changes have been made:

  1. A comment has been made about how the student has adjusted to Remote Learning.
  2. With some CATs and SACs being completed after reports were published, reports may include an ‘NA’ and a comment to indicate the reason for this result. To ensure student reports demonstrate all completed learning from semester 1 (particularly important for VCE students), the semester 1 reports will be re-published in week 5 of next term.
  3. While the Department of Education indicated that teacher judgement were optional after Remote Learning, we have made every effort to report on student performance in key learning areas where evidence was available. In some cases where a valid teacher judgement couldn’t be made due to lack of evidence or limited opportunity to cover the topic, the teacher judgement has been excluded.

Progress Reports

Planning for post-remote learning, students will receive their next cycle of progress reports in week 5 of term 3. Staff assess students in the key areas of Organisation,

Effort, Persistence, Expected Behaviour and Respect, with Year 7-10 students receiving an indication of Academic Standard while Year 11 and 12 students receive feedback about their Subject Requirements. This feedback will allow students and parents to track progress, but also for students to use the feedback in Learn to Learn to set goals for their learning.

The following cycle of progress reports will be completed in week 10 and this feedback will be discussed and progress celebrated at parent teacher student conferences at the end of term.

Subject Selections for 2021

Students in Years 8. 9 & 10 will this week receive Subject Information Handbooks to start the process of selecting their subjects for 2021. Families are encouraged to read through these handbooks in preparation for the Virtual Careers Expo being held on Wednesday, the 29th July. After the Virtual Careers Expo, students (& families) will engage in the subject selection process for 2021 courses. More information about the handbooks and Virtual Careers Expo will be provided in this newsletter and on Compass Newsfeed.
