A note from Mr Jackson

Laughter and running footsteps have echoed through the school over the last two weeks as students from Prep-2 have returned. It has left us all smiling, joyful and thankful to be back. As we welcome students back we continue to support them and reshape a safe place for them to learn and thrive. Classrooms have adopted health and wellbeing strategies to welcome students in the morning and support the transition to more formal learning. The same will occur for the students returning next week. Thanks to both staff and families who have supported the transition.

Ongoing Restrictions

As we welcome back the whole school next week, we continue to ensure a wide range of restrictions remain in place.

Many would be aware of the closure of Macleod Preschool in response to a case of COVID-19. We recognise that for many, this may cause a heightened level of concern during what is already an anxious period in our communities. I am aware that one student at our school has a sibling at the Preschool. The DHHS are clear that there is no need for them to be isolated or excluded from our school as the risk of transmission is minimal. I will keep parents informed via Compass if we receive any notification from the DHHS.  We continue to encourage all parents to be vigilant and ensure no child is sent to school unwell.

While this case is of concern, at Rosanna Primary we continue to follow advice and recommendations from the Chief Medical Officer to ensure we minimise any risk onsite. The detailed implementation of the advice has been circulated to our community and is available on Compass. These measures include;

  • Restricting access on site to staff and students
  • Minimising adult congestion at pickup times by staggering pickup times
  • Practising physical distancing by staff on site
  • Increasing cleaning during the day, particularly of high touch point areas
  • Practising hygienic practices such as the use of hand sanitiser throughout the day
  • Insisting that staff and students do not attend if unwell

Your Feedback on Remote Learning

Learning from home has been a big change for schools, teachers, students and families. We know that parents have contributed greatly over this remote period. We would love to know how this new way of learning has been and is going for your child so far, so we are inviting you to please take the time to complete the Learning from Home Survey. The survey will be open until Friday 26 June 2020.

Please see the post on Compass for more information or go to the link below that will take you directly to the survey.

Birthdays at School

We always look forward to celebrating students' birthdays each year. This happens in a range of ways including singing, games, reflections and cards. During these COVID-19 restrictions, we ask parents not to send in cakes, bags of lollies or other items. Thank you for your support at ensuring the safety and health of all on site.

Drop Off and Pickups Next Week

We continue to encourage students, parents, carers and staff to avoid congregating at gates in the mornings and afternoons. As students in Years 3-6 return next week, we remind parents that they should continue to practise social distancing and minimise any time waiting. We ask parents to drop off or pick up their child and head home as quickly as possible.

In the mornings, students are invited to enter the school from any gate. Preps gates will continue to be supervised by prep teachers in the morning and afternoon. Two staff will be on duty in the upper and lower playgrounds from 8:45pm.

We will be implementing a staggered dismissal time from Tuesday. Students in Years 3 to 6 will be dismissed from their allocated gate from 3:15pm and asked to leave the site as quickly as possible. It is important to note;

  • 23A will be dismissed as a whole class at 3:30pm from Gate 4.
  • Students from Yrs 3-6 who are dismissed at 3:15 can go directly to OSHClub if booked in
  • Students with younger siblings will be dismissed with their younger sibling’s class.
  • Students from Prep through to Year 2 who have been with us already will continue to leave from the same gates as they have left from over this last two weeks.
  • If students are not picked up by 3:45pm they will be taken to OSHClub.
