NAPLAN
Well done to all of our Grade 3 and 5 students for completing their NAPLAN assessments. Each and every one of them demonstrated a positive growth mindset and gave every individual assessment their best effort. They should all be very proud of themselves. We have a couple of catch up assessments to complete over the next few days for some students who were absent, however the majority of the NAPLAN work has now been completed.
Scotsburn Assembly this Friday
We will be holding our next Scotsburn assembly this Friday morning at 9.10am in the shed. This will also form our last official assembly for the term, as the last day of term will be a whole school assembly at Buninyong. We really look forward to welcoming as many parents and friends as possible, and the students love to share their work and awards that they receive. We will also hold an informal morning tea for parents and friends to attend straight after the assembly, in the newly renovated kitchen.
Prep Teddy Bear’s Picnic
Today we welcomed all of the Buninyong Primary School Prep students to the Scotsburn Campus for the annual Teddy Bear’s Picnic. It was amazing to see all of the smiles during the activities and in the yard, as well as all students at the campus being so welcoming and interacting with the preps. We will have lots more photos to share next week.
Family Groups
Friday Family Group sessions are ticking along nicely, and it has been wonderful to see students right across the campus cooperating with one another and having such pride in the campus. Keep up the awesome work everyone!
Sounds-Write
Mrs Anderson and Mrs Robinson have finally finished their Sounds-Write course! Thank you for the support during this time while we completed the training. We understand that it can be disruptive for your child having teachers out of the classroom, especially at the beginning of the year. The training course was extensive and we thoroughly enjoyed the learning. Students have already participated in some of the lessons during whole group and small group focuses. Prep to Grade 2 teachers will be looking at this more closely during our upcoming planning day to figure out a clear approach on how this will look in the classroom. We can’t wait to share more of this learning with you.
Lunchtime Club
Lunchtime club has continued to be a hive of activity. We have been seeing lots of creative play happening each day, which we love to see. Thanks Gaye, Raquel and Erin for making this program such a success!
SC1 Learning Snapshot
What little Mathematicians we have in SC1 this year. Students have been developing their knowledge of counting this week, learning to skip count by 10s, 2s and 5s. They have been using an interactive 100 chart, using counters and other materials. This is something you could easily try at home with your child. You could use lego blocks, small toys such as farm animals, puzzle pieces, pencils or crayons. Why not give it a go!
In Reading and Writing we have been focusing on letter sounds and blending them to make words. Our new Sounds Write program is running and we have already seen some fantastic strategies being used by the students. We are looking forward to the next few weeks of term and really embedding all those great reading and writing skills that have been built on this term.
Here are a few photos of SC1 students during Family Groups last Friday:
Have a terrific week,
Ana and Kirsty
SC2 Learning Snapshot
This week in SC2, students have begun working on addition in Maths. It has been brilliant to see their enthusiasm towards our fluency tasks, with them being able to develop some number skills in a fun and interactive way.
We are also continuing to work on our Cereal Box projects, with students doing a great job developing their persuasive writing skills. We are getting close to finishing our drafts for our products, which is very exciting!
Enjoy the week ahead,
Mitch
SC3 Learning Snapshot
In SC3, students have been working really hard on their Solar Boat
posters and designs, ready for racing in Week 11 down at Buninyong. This major project forms an important part of our Term 1 work on sustainability, with students currently learning a lot about renewable energy, buoyancy, the greenhouse effect and boat design. It is lots of fun and we can’t wait for the racing and presentations to begin.
Well done to our Grade 5 students for navigating their way through NAPLAN so successfully - woo hoo! Also, the Grade 6 students need to be commended for their flexibility and positive attitude throughout the last week, with them having their morning routines altered due to NAPLAN. They approached each morning with a high level of organisation, which massively assisted the NAPLAN testing.
There is quite a bit coming up for our Grade 6 students in the next few weeks, with some students involved in the State School Spectacular this Friday, the GRIP Leadership conference next Tuesday and the whole class going to the Grand Prix next Friday. Please make sure we keep a close eye on Compass and are ready for the events that your child is attending.
Have another great week everyone,

Physical Education
On the 9th of March we were lucky enough to have an AFL football incursion. Representatives from AFL Victoria came to teach us some football skills including kicking, handball and marking. We played lots of games including footy tag, longest kick, flinch and a handballing challenge. We had lots of fun! By Amity
Performing Arts
In Performing Arts SC1 have been focusing on how masks are used to create a character in a play. This week students were able to make their own masks. Over the next week students will use masks to create their own play.
SC2 and SC3 have been focusing on script writing. This has seen students write their own play within a group. Next week students will finish off their scripts and present their plays to the class.
