Recent Primary School Visits

Over the past 3 weeks, North Geelong Secondary College have had the privilege of 10 Primary Schools around the Geelong region visit our College and experience the life of being a secondary student. The students undertook various activities including Science (making a bouncy ball), Food Tech (creating loaded Nachos), Art (designing a mural to take back to their classroom for a visual display) PE and VR Goggles.

The feedback from the Primary Schools has been absolutely amazing and the students really did enjoy their experiences with all of the activities. The photos say it all.

Thankyou to our student helpers over the whole period of the Primary School visits, they showed all of the College values with a big smile on their faces.

SRC 2023

SRC Planning Day

SRC Planning Day occurred on Wednesday 1st March in the L building. Students from 7-12 worked collaboratively on team building exercises and leadership activities with Belinda Yorston from YLead in Queensland. YLead are an organisation that focus on young leaders and helping them to develop the important skills they require to be successful leaders for their community.

Following the presentation, the students were treated to a lunch provided by Geraldine and Allison, a special thanks to them, which they thoroughly enjoyed. They then finished the day by splitting into area meetings and year level meetings that were conducted by the 2023 school captains.

It was a fantastic day, and it was great to see our students step out of their comfort zone and embrace the challenge of leadership. Special thanks to the school captains for their fantastic work during the day and for the support of Paul Dawson, the principal team and the leading teachers.

If you would still like to be a part of the Student Representative Council it is not too late, come and see Mr Fairchild in the Junior Sub School.

Multicultural Committee News

The Multicultural Committee has commenced the year with its first meeting on Monday 20 February at lunch time (12:45-1:30 pm) in the Conference Room. We welcomed Multicultural Captain Bailey Griffin as well as all new and ongoing members. The meeting was very productive with yummy refreshments on offer.  Pako Festa was on the agenda with planning for NGSC to take part in the opening parade on Saturday 25 February.

Together with Multicultural Captain Bailey, several students and Multicultural Committee members proudly represented NGSC in the opening parade, being cheered on by the huge crowds lining the sides of Pakington Street.  Although it was a small group, we made an impact and were noticed. Pako Festa was back to its traditional glory as it was pre Covid and was as spectacular as ever with over 10,000 visitors once again celebrating Geelong’s extraordinary cultural diversity.

NGSC’s Multicultural Committee with its diverse members, greatly values NGSC parents, friends, service providers and the wider school communities participation. In particular new members to the NGSC community are very welcome to join the Committee.  If you wish to get involved and take part in school events such as the annual Multicultural Festival and various other events or to stay up to date, one opportunity is via this committee. For more information or to catch up on the latest updates on the Multicultural Committee, feel free to contact Vera Dudas via the school’s admin office, or watch this space.

The next meeting will be Monday 20 March at lunch time (12:45 -1:30pm) in the Conference Room.

All are welcome to come and join us, with light refreshments on offer.
