School News

Thank You Burrendah!

A big thank you to the whole Burrendah community who contributed to the coin trail held earlier this term to raise funds for the Turkiye-Syria earthquake victims.

We raised a grand total of $1088.00 which was gratefully received by the Red Cross.

Well done everyone!

Autism Awareness Day

Autism Awareness Day is observed every year to raise awareness of Autism and how it affects Autistic people. The day is recognised on 2 April, and the school will celebrate it on Monday, 3rd April. The day is not only about having awareness of Autism but also about accepting neurodiversity. It is a time to celebrate the fact that we are all different. We all have different talents, skills, and difficulties, which make us unique.

It is important to always remember that it is OK to be different. Teachers and the school will be observing the day to foster an inclusive and caring society for all and to ensure that all people with autism can lead full and meaningful lives.

ANZAC Day Ceremony 2023

Thursday, 6th April 2023 - 2:15pm - 2:45pm

This year, our ANZAC Day Ceremony will be held on Thursday, 6th April 2023 in the Undercover Area at Burrendah Primary School. The Ceremony will commence at 2:15pm - 2:45pm for all students in Kindergarten to Year 6. Each class will place a wreath or bouquet of flowers below the flagpole during the ceremony. Donations of flowers or greenery would be greatly appreciated on the morning of Thursday, 6th April directly to classrooms so all classes have the opportunity to make a wreath or bouquet for the ceremony. If you are able to assist with the preparation of a wreath or bouquet for your child’s class please speak with your child’s teacher.

On Entry Assessment Parent Information Session

On May 1st, Ms Chelsea Sutherland (classroom teacher) will be presenting an information session about the annual On Entry Assessment for Pre-Primary and Year 1 students. The session will explain what the assessment is and why schools use it as well as how to understand and use the Parent Reports.

The session will be held in the school hall at 9am and all parents are welcome to attend. Pre-Primary and Year 1 parents will be able to take away their child's assessment report on the day and for families who are unable to attend in person, your child will bring the report home at the end of the school day.

We hope to see you there!

SunSmart Colour Explosion

Students are asked to be SunSmart at the Colour Explosion and make a healthy choice of wearing a hat with a large brim for optimum sun protection.

One faction point will be awarded to any student wearing a large brim hat from home.

Communication

Parents/guardians are encouraged to establish and maintain positive communication with teachers and the school.  Teachers are available via email through Connect. Parents/guardians should discuss issues and concerns as soon as they occur.  Interviews with teachers can be arranged, for a mutually convenient time, by making an appointment.

If unable to satisfactorily resolve a problem or issue with the classroom teacher, parents/guardians are asked to make an appointment to see the Principal, Associate Principal, or Deputy Principal. The Deputy Principal oversees Kindergarten – Year 3 and the Associate Principal oversees Years 4–6. The Administration can be contacted by email at Burrendah.PS.Administration@education.wa.edu.au  or by phone at 9266 6200.

Teaching staff, including Administration, are not required to respond to communications outside of their normal working hours. However, every effort will be made to respond, generally during school hours, within a reasonable timeframe; for example, 48 hours from reading a communication on a work day. If further information is required please see the Department’s ‘Talking with my School’ document.
