It has been a busy yet wonderful start to the year in Room 19. As soon as the first day commenced, we were straight into getting to know a bit more about our classmates that we would be spending the year ahead with. The first week of school was full of get-to-know-you games and fun activities. It was fantastic to see so many students who have been at a Burrendah before welcoming our new students. We started to establish our school and classroom expectations, following the PBS guidelines. The class has done a wonderful job of this so far which will hold them in good stead for the year ahead.
We have been consolidating our knowledge from Year 1 in both literacy and numeracy, which has made new topics much clearer when we approach them. In mathematics, we have revised and looked at effective counting strategies as well as different ways to approach addition problems. We have also explored the world of 2D and 3D shapes.
Our focus for writing this term has been narrative. The students have been learning about all the different components which make an ‘entertaining story’. We are really excited to put all of the pieces together and write our own narratives soon, using the story station we have built along the way.
We have been busy in Room 22! We have been learning to write exciting Narratives and edit our work. We are enjoying doing investigations and presenting our findings to the class. In Maths we have been doing tricky addition, measuring carefully, and learning some mental maths shortcuts. Our photos show us working hard in Maths, solving problems in STEM, and making healthy food posters.
