Harmony Day

This Friday was our school's harmony day and harmony day festival. Everyone either dressed up in their traditional outfit or cheerful colours. As well as Harmony day, Friday was a ride to school day, open day and the welcome/harmony picnic. At the start of the day all the kids did a parade showing off their outfits and giving welcoming high-fives.

Preps

Maya: I dressed up in an Indian costume. My favourite things in the parade were all the high fives and talking in front of the school. My favourite thing about India is the food and my favourite food in India is papadams. I have never been to India but I really want to.

Aidan: I am dressing up as Captain America because I am American and Australian. My favourite thing about America is I get to see my American family. I think Harmony means being together and celebrating your differences.I really liked walking around the parade because I got so many high fives. My favourite thing about the parade is how I got to dance.

Lettie 1/2CW: I am from India and New Zealand so I dressed up in Indian clothes to show my culture. My favourite part of the parade was everything (too much to choose from), but it was fun to tap my brother on the head. I love the festivals of my culture and the food. My favourite part of my culture is having fun. I really look forward to future Harmony day festivals.

Cashy 1/2CW: I am half Australian. Most of my family is from Australia and my dad is from Papua New Guinea. I dressed up in orange. Sasha 3/4ST: I am from Russia and I did not dress up as anything because I didn’t have any colours or Russian things to wear. My favourite part of the parade was high fiving everyone during the harmony parade. Harmony day means peace to me because you celebrate other cultures. I don’t celebrate my culture because I have nothing to celebrate.

I am very happy that I am German too because it is a great community and I love the food. I celebrate harmony day by going to the pub and eating dinner with my family. I  look forward to future harmony days. I am excited for future harmony days because I know I am a part of something beyond Australia. Harmony to me is a day where you get to connect to my ancestors.
