This year we have commenced our study club for term 1 with our new year 7 students. We started off with 10-12 students, and has increased every week to over 23 students attending on a Tuesday. The commitment these students make to attend our MCC study is outstanding. Study club does not only support students to complete homework tasks and assessments, and develop good study habits, but it also focuses on students working in groups sharing their ideas and building friendships which decreases social isolation.
I would like to welcome our newest Learning Support Officer’s (TA), Ambrose and Megan who have started to help and assist the students, which is such a great help. We also have our lovely subject teachers, Miss Jarvis-Dempsey, and Mrs Sharma who teach Art, Religion and History who also volunteer their time afterschool to provide one on one tutoring to the students.
Every Tuesday we have ‘Study Club’ from 3:15 PM – 4:30 PM in the school library, and a reminder is always published on compass to notify the students. It’s great to see a variety of different students from all year groups attend on a weekly basis.
Here are the photos of our students and staff in ‘Study Group’ this term.
Here at Marian Catholic College we a trying to create a more efficient way of recycling and how to get the whole school involved and to educate the students how to become a more sustainable school community.
Why do we recycle at Marian? Students and Staff recycle to fund to help the Griffith Community Centre to purchase ingredients for Carevan.
What are the benefits for the school? Encouraging positive recycling behaviours and awareness. Encourages students to participate in the community and it helps students build their leadership skills.
This year, I have created a whole school roster for everyone to be involved with MCC recycling. Mr Morris has been a great help last year with getting his year 7 students involved, and now his students are in year 8 and have been great role models on the new year 7 students of paving the way.
It was hot sunny day, that these students had such great positive attitudes, and thrive, that they worked in a team effort working in small groups to collect our staff and school recycling from around the school grounds. They were awarded with Ice poles and a merit for being sun smart and striving to be the best within themselves.
Here we have the following students from 8.1 pictured below:
Ashton Barnes, Bhavleen Kaur, Ethan Tropeano, Henry Parsons, Josie Schmetezer, Lillian (Lilly) Bertaco, Chelsea Agostini, Ruby Favero, Tayla Nichols, and Taylor Hornbuckle.
Griffith Community Centre Carevan is a small not for profit organisation, non-government funded reliant on sponsorships, donations and fundraising to continue our work.
We here at Marian Catholic College have a strong and caring team of staff and students who help cook for Carevan. Our coordinator Maureen her assistant Sally and staff member Kenta are a great help in setting up their hospitality room to cater for the needs of ‘CAREVAN’.
This year we have a new group of students who have put in their interest to join MCC Community Action Team, and the outcome was outstanding with 25 students from Year 7 to Year 10.
Wednesday, 8 of March we cooked fried rice to help and support caravan. The year students were so keen and happy with the way they cooked and putting all their ingredients together, and how they can be ‘Master Chef’.
It was great atmosphere with the staff and students helping in team effort to support such a great cause for our local community in the heart of Griffith.
Images below of our lunch team preparation, followed by our recess team of combining the ingredients together and finally period 5 of our clean up team.
