Dear Marian Catholic College Community,

Diocese of Wagga Wagga Catholic Education Charter

Marian Catholic College is part of Catholic Education-Diocese of Wagga Wagga (CEDWW) - a system of 29 Catholic schools in the Riverina-who fall under the guidance of Bishop Mark Edwards. All of the Catholic schools in our diocese are governed by the Catholic Education Charter. The Charter provides our foundations, outlining that all CEDWW schools are communities of Welcome, Faith, Service and Learning. Marian is no exception. However, I would also highlight Marian’s focus on Care and Excellence. So when we think of Marian Catholic College, all of these elements form part of what we offer your children-Welcome, Faith, Learning excellence, Service and Care in a Marian tradition.

Year 7 2024 Information Evening

All parents of Year 6 students considering enrolment for 2024 may be asking  that important question-why Marian? This question was answered fully in our Year 7 Enrolment evening last night. Marian provides an outstanding and inclusive Catholic education with excellent learning and vocational outcomes to all students in Griffith and the immediate MIA region. Marian is a place of welcome and belonging, faith, offering excellence in learning, care and opportunities for service. This is all wrapped up  in a compassionate, supportive and nurturing environment that focuses on development of the whole person. This allows your child to flourish and grow to be the best person they can be while at our school.

At the Information Evening, prospective parents also heard from Year 12 College Captains Lachlan Chant, Elizabeth Romeo, Jess Moraschi and Charlie O’Sulllivan, followed by year 7 student Dahab Abbas. These student leaders provided a confident and articulate student perspective on school life at Marian Catholic College. For parents who might be coming from other school settings, opportunities for growth and understanding of faith life were outlined including:

  • Participation in Prayer, Mass, Liturgies and Reflection
  • Service to others and to community through fundraising, volunteering, and education and participation in social justice and equity programs
  • The provision of an inclusive and respectful Religious Education  Curriculum from Years 7-12

My thanks go to all involved in this evening and the follow up enrolment, transition, and orientation preparations for next year’s cohort of Year 7 students, including Mrs Lora Segrave, Mrs Damien Herb, Mr Gabriel Abdalla, Mrs Patricia Star, Mrs Julie O’Keefe and many others behind the scenes who contribute to this process. Very special thanks to our student leaders, who as always, were the real stars in the event.

Catholic Schools Week: A Time to Shine

I would like to congratulate our students and staff involved in the wonderful performances in A Time to Shine-Tuesday 7th of March at the Wagga Wagga Civic Theatre. The creativity and gifts of Leader of Creative and Performing Arts-Mr Matt Segrave, supported by hardworking and talented Mrs Belinda Aventi allowed our students to truly shine on this special evening. It was an incredibly entertaining evening, and, for me personally, a very proud and moving moment when our students from Marian performed. The College students presented culturally diverse and very polished performances that showcased their stunning talent as singers, dancers and performers. The event was streamed with the streaming link available from the College facebook page for anyone who missed this on the night. A full report with further photos will be available in a later report.

NAPLAN

This year NAPLAN assessment for Years 7 and 9  is being held March 15th to 17th.  Thank you in advance to Mr Damien Herb, Mrs Rina Fisher, Mrs Angela Morris and all teachers of our students for their work and preparation towards this. As outlined by Mr Herb at the Information Evening yesterday, Marian Catholic College’s NAPLAN results have shown excellent trends consistently for a number of years, placing Marian as one of the top secondary school performers in the Riverina area. NAPLAN provides an important snapshot of student achievement and potential for parents, students and schools alike. NAPLAN also assists us in measuring learning growth and performance for our students as they progress through to senior years. Best wishes to our students and the NAPLAN team for next week.
