A time for celebration

Last week’s Valete (farewell) events were wonderful and resulted in our Year 12 students completing their formal schooling in a very positive manner. Our annual Art Exhibition and Sport Awards’ evenings were also very successful events designed to coincide with the last week of formal classes for our Year 12 cohort. In the previous week, our Media night was equally impressive.

The quality of student work displayed at the Art Exhibition was outstanding. Our Visual Arts’ Captain, Bailey Arundell, spoke eloquently on the influence of the Arts on the lives of our students and how it provided a medium to provide comment on societal issues. Bailey’s artwork is outstanding and was matched by his excellent address at the opening of the Exhibition.

This year’s special guest officially opening the Art Exhibition was Ann Nie Chong from the Class of 1997. She has an Arts and Marketing/Commerce background and an extensive list of experience in the design and fashion industry. Ann Nie spoke of the significance of her Arts’ education at the College as a foundation for her professional career.

Our Sport Awards’ audience was treated to the presentation of awards and video presentations of many aspects of sporting life at the College. The highlight of this night was the panel of students interviewed by Glenn Mitchell:

  • Year 7 - Sasha Pallis
  • Year 8 - Luke Carrello
  • Year 9 - Nicholas Silva
  • Year 10 - May Verleg
  • Year 11 - Anthony Nedelkos
  • Year 12 - Lucy Taylor

Each of our students discussed their own sporting endeavours, and the importance of being part of JTC teams.

At each of the College events in the past few weeks, our students have also been quick to acknowledge the efforts of staff. Congratulation to Visual Arts’ Coordinator, Ms Louise Hoy, Sport Coordinator, Ms Sara Kononen, and all students and staff involved in wonderful celebrations.
