Snapshot of Remote Learning By Prep

Mini Teacher’s Having Fun With Prep Students

We are well aware of the many challenges and feelings that our students are having during this current lockdown. Our students are divided in their experience of remote learning. Some greatly enjoy the flexibility of learning from home, the chance to set their own hours and pace of work. A surprising outcome for teachers has been that some students who are normally quiet in the classroom speak up and contribute more in the online environment. Furthermore, teachers have reported that students are missing face-to-face contact with their teachers as well as their friends. We continue as a school community to rally together to meet the challenges head on.

As a novel way to address this problem the four Prep teachers came up with the Mini Teacher Project for their students. A few weeks ago the Prep students received some exciting mail in their letterboxes! Each of the students were surprised to find their Prep teachers had been shrunk and flattened and delivered to their letterbox with a special poem. The poem explained that the Prep teachers missed each of the students so much that they wanted to come and visit them at home.

Throughout the week, students were sent a range of activities to complete with their mini teacher picture. Some of the highlights of the week included building houses for their flattened teachers, cooking yummy treats with them, taking them on walks to their local parks and completing their learning tasks alongside them.

The mini teachers also joined in for some online learning! During their Google Meet sessions, students had the opportunity to share some fun activities that they completed with their mini teachers. Students we’re very excited and parents commented that it brought a big smile to their faces. The Prep teachers were thrilled to receive an abundance of photos from the students, showing all of the wonderful adventures they had been on. Their favourite part was seeing the beautiful smiles on the faces of all of the students, and feeling a little more connected during remote learning.

A big thank you to Miss Stewart, Miss Francis, Mrs Sanna and Miss Paull for such an engaging activity for their students.
