Excursion and Incursion and in Term 4
Tarnanthi Exhibition
The Year 4/5 class, Mrs Jolley/Mrs Martin’s, have been given a wonderful opportunity to view the Tarnanthi Exhibition at the Art Gallery of South Australia on Monday 25/10.
This exhibition features contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art from around the country and includes many art forms, from painted desert canvases to bark painting to rock art.
Students will also attend a studio workshop where they will create their own boab sculpture based on the ideas of Walmajarri artist, John Prince Siddon.
These experiences directly connect with the Arts curriculum as students will be exploring ideas and practices used by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists to represent different views and opinions.
Songlines 2021 with Nancy Bates and Katie Aspel
Ms Sally was successful in an application for our school to be involved with Songlines 2021. Three classes will be involved on Friday 19/11 – Tori Hay 1/ 2, April Woods 3/ 4 and Nat Jolley’s 4/ 5. Our art teacher, Melissa Thiele, Jae Gillett and Sue Dunn will be assisting.
Share understanding and learnings through the art of Songlines
Our school will participate in a day of in-school workshops led by esteemed teaching artist, songwriter and Barkindji woman Nancy Bates, with the support of teaching artist mentee Katie Aspel - a proud Ngarrindjeri artist from Raukkan who uses her music as her own way of personal story telling.
During these song writing workshops, students will learn about Songlines; a way of creating, sharing, and maintaining knowledge through song and use these Songlines to explore ways to support Reconciliation and understanding of First Nations’ cultures and perspectives.
Throughout the day, Nancy and Katie will work with three classes to write sections of the one song, which will be shared in a group performance of the school’s unique contemporary ‘Songline’ at the end of the day.
